yeah, it complains about ixemul.library (strange, it gave different error before heap error or something like that)

I do have ixemul in libs:

Is it the correct version? IIRC ixemul comes in a few different flavours and compatibility between them isn't great (though I might be confusing it with something else).

ok, i installed the correct version ('020 with fpu) but it now gives that old error:

I guess you have too little memory.

ISTR with lha (I think) that you can tell it where to buffer the files it's unarchiving rather than it defaulting to RAM. Perhaps you can do the same with one of the unrar utilities to avoid running out of memory? Alternatively, could you use UAE to decompress the file?

I can't understand why un-archiving a larger file would make any difference... surely it can just un-archive in chunks, e.g. 256KB per chunk or w/e... then memory wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not too sure how RAR archiving works though, so maybe it has to use more memory.

yes, i know the lha has an option to set working directory to whatever, but unrar hasn't

well, you can always re pack it with zip or lha on your pc and get sorted.

I think x303 is right, but try to increase the stack before you give up.
