Title: So when will we know what's happened to Amiga, Inc.?
Post by: Tension on February 10, 2010, 02:21:14 AM
Website is still down.

Anybody heard any more info?

They were a shell for years anyway.  Looks like someone turned off the life support.

Just a guess..but since this isn't a real company nobody is paying attention to their web status and or domain name. Give it a bit until someone realizes that its down and Snowman maker & Telenet force will be rockin again!!

Wow funny i cared more about watching the weather channel then i do about A-Inc being down.  Just think they haven't done crap anyways for the last umpteen yrs and honestly i doubt any1 cares, misses or gives a crap about them.  Hopefully they will get into something more suited for them like falling in the ocean and disappearing 4ever.

I actually care - in the sense that I'm happy that it looks like they've finally folded.  If true, it's such a relief to finally have this albatross from around the necks of the Amiga community.  Don't you feel the sense of lightness! ;-)

The only reason they were still around was to finish the negotiations regarding the transfer of Amiga OS to Hyperion.
Now that the negotiations are over, I guess there is no reason for them to be around anymore.

As ral-clan said, goodbye and goodridance, now I can finally go and buy my first Amiga. I always felt that the Amiga Inc/Hyperion relation was kinda fragile, and that Amiga Inc could pull the plug anytime they wanted. Now that Hyperion has the green light and the right to use all the intellectual property, I guess it's safe to invest.

You forget we never did find out what AI got out of that new agreement, we only saw what Hyperion got.  I have a feeling that after Hyperion changed from VOF, shares got traded on a side deal with AI or McEwen.  McEwen loves back room deals, that would fit nicely into his MO.

In a way you are right, it's not impossible but so difficult to come up with something as good as PS3/360 for games at just 2x the cost it will never happen.

However all people wanted was a nice machine not too expensive (price/performance) to run OS4 this decade. And Amiga Inc failed to do that miserably too. But then so has every other company supplying OS4 capable hardware today and Hyperion's refusal to transfer OS4 to PPC Mac hardware which is plentiful is also fail ;)

The only company illegally supplying Amiga related items is Cloanto, as Amiga Inc are seemingly dead how the hell is their agreement to exclusively supply KS roms/WB ADFs still valid and not illegal, rip-off prices for Amiga Forever not withstanding ;)

The first version of AF came out in 97 or thereabouts - I remember seeing the review of it on CU Amiga. I think it would have been either Escom right before they went belly up or not very long after Gateway took over.

AmigaDE made a hell of a lot of better business sense than AOS4. It allowed them the possibility to float their platform on everything under the sun. Problem was, their platform wasn't that great and they didn't have the resources to force the market into using it. I

Yeah AmigaDE actually made good commercial sense.

Wasn't obviously what Amiga fanboys wanted, but then again that's a tiny market.

Problem is Java was around at that time too, it's free, you don't have to share revenue with AInc and it's supported by BIG companies.

It was really a no-brainer.

Someone owns Kickstart, and it would have been Amiga Inc 12 months ago so that makes no sense.

Magnum 44 is a little strong to describe what this monkey has.  I'd go with particularly fragrant fecal matter and a decent throwing arm.
