Title: IS Amiga 3.1 for intel a la AmigaOSXL or Amithlon now Possible?
Post by: Crom00 on February 06, 2010, 11:29:30 PM
Hey guys, now that the legal issues have been settled between Hyperion and Amiga inc. Is it possible to legally produce an Amithlon product again? This was a truly great solution.

It may be legal now but try AROS instead.....I doubt that Amithlon will ever be updated again and you're lucky if it even runs on modern hardware..

I've been wondering this, too.

Amithlon, correct me if I'm wrong, could run all 68K programs except those that banged the hardware direcctly (some games).  Back in the day, it was boasted to be the fastest Amiga available.  From what I saw of a demo at a show, this was born out.  For a while, there were kernal updates to keep it running on more modern hardware.  Are people still updating the kernal?  I would still love to have an Amiga running (NOT inside Windows!) on modern laptop hardware.

AROS is a great project and I hear it has made strides in functionality.  Can it simply run the mountain of software an original Amiga can?

Aaaarg!  Once again I could not type fast enough to avoid being automatically logged out!  @#$%^&!

that amithlon can sell again i think not, because there is no valid licence as ainc said.

Because Amithlon is a great design and Kernel is opensource, it can run on more Hardware when update the Linux Kernel and write drivers. And with PCIe Cards it can be fast even with VESA.

You just don't need this anymore (http://o1i.blogspot.com/2010/02/wanderer-integration-part-2-all-missing.html).

The main issue with AROS and why I'm not going to be distributing AROS boxes is the lack of native binary compatibility and the speed of Amithlon. Of course, it would be unacceptably expensive to find a load of boxed copies and box each computer with one. That, is the failure of copyrights that no longer are sold and impede the distribution of it.

Amiga Forever is still legally reachable.  And 2009 edition has AmigaSys and AmiKit as plugins.  So now, that's a pretty neat stuff for an x86.
