Time changes. When I started with Amiga, mp3s and oggs was a fairytale. Now that didn't stop the brilliant Amiga to have something that others needed years for getting! Yea! You guessed right, sound!
I want you, the Amiga community to discuss Amiga music :) Because its never been discussed really. In fact I only know Amiga MODs because of friends playing it. So, Now its Time to tell others your Top 10 music for fun, for games or anything else with matters 4 you!
Amiga never had 24bit sound, but what people did with its 8bit sound is amazing and should never be forgotten. Amiga music is its own genre I feel. Now, I hope for some Amiga music debate and top 10 listenings of your all time Amiga usage.
-Let the Amiga Sound be Known Again!-
-
I only have one word to say: Turrican :afro:
-
Agony
-
Ninja Warriors
-
...and so here is a good place to mention http://themodstation.org/
which is streaming Amiga game music online!
-
Can you please link to Aminet or places where to get this? :) Yes, Agony music is awesome. Also love Super Stardust music, its even enhanced for Super Stardust HD for PS3 which is great.
I love:
Enigma
Stardust Memories
TBL-Tint demo -love the music in it
Cannon Fodder music cannot be forgotten
Superfrog
Lotus 2 -main theme is wonderfull ...
Lotus 3 -night track intro.. love it :)
What sort of players do you use for listening to Amiga Mods?
On Amiga:
AmiNetRadio
Hippo Player
On Mac:
CocoModX
On PC:
Winamp
also use UADE if possible :)
-
On PC:
Winamp
No no noo.. no. no no. Nope. Or well, never use Oldskool-plugin at least.
-
Agony
I second that. Awesome (the game) too.
-
The music from "World of Commodore 92" demo. As far as I remember the module was called Stardust memories..
-
For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of this Ninja type game that had an incredible intro. Music totally rocked and the intro was a pretty long animation that went with the soundtrack. I remember it having "speed lines" (as if the guy or whatever he chucked was moving very fast) and it thundering/lightening in a couple of places. Anyone know what game this might be? It hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread...

Oh yes I got that too, even made a (slightly crappy) video with it.

@ save2600 : Shadow Warriors?
@ orb85750 : Thanks for the plug :)
Big update coming soon on The MOD Station (when I find the time) Stay tuned!
and my vote ........ any Psygnosis or bitmap bro's game music, especially XENON 2 !
-
Thanks Dr.! Yes, that was it :) Not sure I would have ever came up with that title and after your suggestion, even the YouTube demo of it conveniently chopped off the opening sequence. lol One of the greatest tunes I've heard from a video game. Especially an early one from '90.
-
Shadow Warriors is on The MOD Station rotation at the moment. In the near future you'll be able to request...... Stay tuned :)
-
Xenon2-theme is hardly Amigamade, rather samples played on Amiga :)
-
Although Xenon 2 relies heavily on samples the main tune is Amiga-made (a cover though I'll grant you). Still I thought this thread was to discuss Amiga music as a whole, and I don't think megablast should be left out. Just my 2 cents :)
-
I still use amigas today in my drum and bass

my little "tribute" to cannon fodder:) i made it back in 1995 with pro (or melon?) tracker. just for fun, i doesnt even like this kind of music (except when i do:)
back to topic: nobody liked chuck rock 1 theme music? that one alone made me buy an amiga:)
also petroff/absolute's music was great, i loved them (hungarian scene musician).
ah and dont forget about skeleton crew'music, i made several hits from those modules (remembering the days when we looked for modules in memory and rip them to get some great samples and see how they were made:)
-
@inoel
myspace... do you have any other site where you can put some of your music? myspace is not working with amiga browsers (maybe it does with owb mos+flash but i dont feel to try and slow my system with flashcrap:)
what software do u use to make dnb and what hw setup?
i've heard that aphrodite and some other british dnb producers also used amigas back then (even in the 2k's) mostyl with octamed, often with 2 amiags at once. even coldplay used amigas:)
-

-
"system check mix one" - i like this, it reminds me of war of the worlds.
"Ghosts" - Really original , to me, for electronic music, cool old school sounds.
Were these done on Amigas? I could see that...
I'll post my 'electronic' stuff (few) to be reviewed by some real artist of the genre...
Cool!

Jeff Wayne's WotW? If so, I'd love to hear that...
-
I've always liked the music in Out to Lunch.
-
@save2600
No, I had no idea about that (Jeff Wayne's WotW), but I do now. That was just what sprang to mind.
posted a couple of oldies techno - http://www.unc.edu/home/johna/drupal6/
Well some one started this thread...

This guy started uploading his old Deluxe Music (version 1) compositions, which sound quite unlike what you remember from DM.

Wow! This is good stuff. And retro trippy...this one's like "girl from ipanema" on drugs, awesome.
Ice Box Nice Box - Warner Jepson

My favourite mod is "Space Maiden" by (Hades of Prelude) - simply amazing use of samples in only 209K
-
My personal favourite mod is "Piggie's Hut". Great Maiden/Pantera tune with real guitar samples. I've no idea if it's from a demo or a game (I doubt it) or who had made it.

Amiga never had 24bit sound,
As a side note, the Melody Pro had a 20 bit D/A with 108dB S/N ratio and is better than most PC soundcards available.
My website has a good collection of modules (well, my private playlist of 10 years ago or so)
http://www.platon42.de/cgi-local/navbar.pl?0000&mods.html
You can also use it to generate high quality VBR encoded MP3s on the fly (with UADE).
I think Sanity's ARTE demo (Living insanity, elekfunk and mobyle) had a great soundtrack and I really often listen to this one ;)
The Dune I title track is also awesome (and much better than the PC midi version), especially when you've got a good subwoofer ;) It's so cool how the composer crammed so many instruments in just four channels.
You should listen to "King Derek's Galaxy", the soundtrack of the demo Relic by Nerve Axis.
Ah, and Pinball Illusions/Fantasies.
Space Debris by Captain.
If you're into electronic/acid/experimental, you should have a look at Muffler's tracks. For example "Nebula" from the demo with the same name.
KnullaKuk
"Rock it up and play" is really neat, if you like more heavy stuff. Also the Chuck Rock title tune.
"3minutes" (or "three minutes" alternate version) is a nice breakbeat/jungle track.
I think I could go on forever (and I'm leaving out the Huelsbeck stuff).
Did I mention that I met a girl a week ago that knows Jochen Hippel? :)

There are many thousands of excellent Amiga Modules and more, it is impossible to pick out the top ten. The same applies to C64, completely impossible to pick out.
If I had a hundred pre-selected options, I'd managed to pick out ten personal favorites in a 1 to 10 order.
-
many of the best Amiga Music are come in Demos too..
-
I actually love the intro from Shadow of the Beast, and im corny enough to love alot of cracktro tunes, allways been since I where in the scene :) Other then that I love the intro for Cannon Fodder, Turican, all tracks in all Lotus Tubo challange games, I also like the tunes from all Digital Illusions (Named DiCE nowdays) pinball games :)
-
The intro music on this game was good, although it was only the first 16 seconds as the boss. So after this proteracker ruled.

Blastar had awesome music. I remember connecting the miggy to the stereo when playing this. :)

Since I like to compete, this is also good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw6_V3-nO0A&feature=related
This also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzq6VRPXqYI
EDIT: This was certainly not amiga made, it's an MP3 or something.

Amiga never had 24bit sound, but what people did with its 8bit sound is amazing and should never be forgotten.
Well, the Repulse audio card for the Amiga gave it 24-bit audio. But not much took advantage of this (SoundFX maybe). OctaMED SS could render to 16-bit wav files. But as you probably meant, most Amiga music was made with the 8-bit Paula audio.
Anyway, 16-bit and 24 bit audio is a bit over-rated - especially for electronic / chip type music. It's not how many bits you have, it's how well the music is written. So I agree with you, there was some great 8-bit Amiga music. I was never really into MODs, but some of the ones that stick out are the music from Alternate Reality, The Pawn and Hybris.

Nice page BTW. I used it plenty of times in the past :) (As well as your excellent deli genie!)
We do a similar thing with modland now http://www.modland.com where you can download as ogg/mp3. As well as uade, we use some other backends to support various platforms including megadrive/snes and others (There is also an interface to stream as ogg/mp3 for XBMC http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-addons/downloads/detail?name=Modland_0.6.zip&can=2&q=)
here's a crack intro tune i like from Felix Schmidt

I read recently that Calvin Harris' debut album was written mostly using Octamed on his A1200. Quite interesting!

Also found out that the music video to Junior Senior's hit Move Your Feet several years ago was entirely made using Deluxe Animation!
