Title: PC to A500 transfer via IDE and Flashcard?
Post by: newwaver on February 04, 2010, 02:00:34 AM
Say I was able to get an IDE sidecar HardDrive for the 500. Shouldn't I be able to plug in one of those IDE to Flash Card adapters and use that to transfer the data back and forth? What considerations would I have to give as far as the data format of the card? Would I need, say, CrossDos on the Amiga?

Thanks again!

Yes you can, but you can't "hot swap" the CF card when it is used in an IDE to CF adapter.  Not a huge problem with the short boot times for an Amiga, but a slight inconvenience.

As for format, use FAT32 format (I think that is what I used on mine when transferring from my A1200 to PC with PCMCIA to CF card adapter.  It might have come on the EasyADF floppy from AmigaKit when I bought the adapter and CF card from them, but you can get the Amiga FAT32 software from other places IIRC).

Some one with a better memory will probably jump in here and give you a better answer.

keep in mind that with FAT/crossdos you won't be able to boot from that drive.

you can format it with FFS and use it under winuae on the PC though.
