Title: Blizzard 2060 memory problem
Post by: hese7 on February 01, 2010, 07:44:23 AM
I have a Blizzard 2060 accelerator installed onto an Amiga 2000 with rev 6 motherboard and kickstart 3.1.
For some reason the Blizzard does not detect any memory installed onto the accelerator.

When I boot to AmigaOS 3.1 all I see is the CHIP ram.
I have tried different SIMMs (4 MB, 8 MB, 16 MB) but none of them seem to work.

Other parts of the accelerator seem to be ok.
cpu060 detects the 68060 ok and I get the correct autoconfig ID at the boot menu.

Any idea what could be the issue?
Broken accelerator or motherboard?

Is there a jumper that needs to be set either on the cpu card or the 2000 mobo ?

No, according to the Blizzard manual no jumpers are needed to set on the accelerator or motherboard.
And there doesn't seem to be any jumpers on the motherboard that would affect this (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=17).

Did it used to work, but now doesn't or is this a new install?  I'd start by cleaning the edge connector that goes into the FastSlot on the card w/ a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol. Then, take a look at the SIMM holders and see if there's anything funky going on there. I've seen A2000 mobo's where the slots have become damaged. The plastic literally cracked, which could cause poor connection. Or bad solder joints underneath the connector from a lot of usage (from installing/removing boards).

I bought this used. The seller said the accelerator worked when it was shipped.
I'll clean the connector and check the SIMM slots and the motherboard.
Strange that the accelerator works partially, CPU operates okay.

I have a Warp Engine 4028 accelerator that does the same. CPU works, SCSI device driver is found by the system, but no matter what memory that is installed, no memory is recognised, even a working setup from another Warp Engine card. So it is possible, unfortunately.

I have a somewhat similar problem with a GVP 040 in my A2000. It has always worked fine with the 4 meg that I originally purchased with it. But last year I purchased an additional 12 meg, and I can't get it to recognize all 16 meg (I checked the jumper options). I got it to recognize 12 meg at one point. I cleaned the contacts on the SIMM's and sockets, and eventually lost ground to where it will now only see 8 meg total out of the 16.

Besides the fact that it's a PITA to fuss with, I'm worried that du to the age of the equipment, that I will damage something by repeatedly installing and reinstalling components.
