Title: Trade Wars on Amiga?
Post by: Tenacious on January 31, 2010, 05:30:09 PM
One of the few games that ever engaged me much was Trade Wars, a game played on BBSs some 20 years ago.  Ppl would login, usually one at a time, and play their daily turn for domination of the galaxy.  Trade Wars was ansii text/graphic based.  The modern day on-line game Eve is, I think, a descendant of Trade Wars.

Was there ever a Trade Wars (or Eve) flavored game on Amiga?

I don't need it to have on-line capability.  It would simply be fun to engage our family on one computer.

Since this was originally a PC program, I am surprised to find it was ported to Amiga to run under the CNET BBS package.  Very cool.

What I'm looking for is a stand alone game (no BBS required), perhaps with better graphics.  My ignorance is my own fault for never gravitating much to gaming.  There must be a turn-based (for many players) space empire type game.

Well, I'm not sure about a stand alone version (VGA Planets?), but I currently run a server for a game similar to Trade Wars, called Black Nova Traders. There's not much activity on it these days, but feel free to use it if you want. Link below.

Hmmmmm..... I know of a turn-based for many players family compatible medieval empire type game with simple graphics (not ANSI) for Amiga... but not a space one...  Sorry about that mate.

Thanks for the replies.

Total Chaos fits the bill (many players and so on) but the story is not in space?

An awful lot of people who play Total Chaos are playing as Father-Son or Grampa-grandkids or boyfriend-girlfriend or brother-brother.  It just sounded like the kind of thing you might like.

Outer Space was intentionally destroyed during Total Chaos: WWI (Wizard War I).  The Swedonian Empire destroyed space to prevent von Braun, Supreme Imperial Overlord of the Germaniac Empire from escaping to another planet and eventually conquering the universe. :destroy:

The thing is... as it turns out... space was holding up the entire 3rd dimension.  So when they destroyed space, the 3rd dimension collapsed. :roflmao:

All that is left of the universe now is flat 17x14 grid of square cells which just coincidentally is the exact size of an Amiga monitor.

BTN is the closest your going to get for a non BBS door game like the one I run on RoF.

The best version of TradeWars, in my opinion, was the multiplayer MajorBBS version, real time combat, hard to beat that.

Later on someone put out TWGS which was also multiplayer, but that was also PC based.
