Title: Fs: A3000t '030
Post by: tone007 on January 31, 2010, 01:53:28 PM
Good condition, includes original feet
3.1 ROMs, 16MB ZIP FastRAM, 2MB ChipRAM
4GB HD
All the latest chips (Buster, DMAC, SCSI)
Currently has a Hydranet ethernet board and CV64, those can be left in or removed
Battery removed long ago, no damage to board
Power supply internals replaced with newer AT supply (installed into original PSU's case to maintain stock appearance)
System is as reliable and solid an Amiga as I've used, has worked beautifully with 3 different accelerators.

Insanely heavy as you'd expect, international shipping might not be reasonable

PM offers.

If you don't mind my asking, how come?

The space requirements are too great.

The A3000t is great but a A4000D desktop conv or the A4000T outclasses it. Although I like the robust design of the A3000T.

I've got a 4000T here too, I always liked the 3000T better.

I think most people who have owned and operated both computers would agree with you!

I dunno about that. It's aga or nothing for me.

There are some games on AGA that aren't available for ECS/OCS, true.  The 3000T was more of a professional system, while most Amigas have a "mouse" port and a "joystick" port, the 3000T's are labelled Mouse 1 and Mouse 2.  Same ports, just labelled differently for business users.

Business users use two mice? lol  That's a new one on me ;)  One optical, one regular?  lol  Oh, I know... one for each hand. Makes Cad drawing and etch-a-sketch that much easier...

I have to admit I felt that way at one time also.  I felt if the Amiga wasn't AGA it wasn't worth having.  Of course, that was before I had owned an A3000 or A3000T.  Back in the day I could never afford one.  I have never known anyone who owned an A3000T and not loved it.  They might not of liked some of the problems that age has brought on (such as failing Power Supplies) but when it is operating correctly it is hard to beat.

All kidding aside, the 3000T is now sold.

Thanks for the interest.

I am looking at my A3000 right now and the ports are not labelled in any way.

Your A3000 isn't an A3000T.

They're nice, if a bit hard to expand in the CPU slot area due to stuff in the way... Even finding good low-profile heatsinks to handle a 3640 card under there is tough.

What's the difference between the desktop and the tower?
Title: Re: Fs: A3000t '030

one is short and fat and the other is thin and tall.

Completely different cases and motherboards:

http://amiga.resource.cx/mod/a3000t.html
http://amiga.resource.cx/mod/a3000.html

..not to mention a good 20lbs or so.

Functionally, they're about the same aside from the additional room in the 3000T.

edit: oh, internal speaker in the 3000T as well.

For you guys that have both, what do you like about a 3000T over a 4000T?

I'm thinking about thinning the herd as well, maybe down to a 4000T and my original A500/A530. The 4000T seems to be the best of everything - plenty of room for expansion, AGA, the SCSI chip is phenomenal, etc. Also - and I KNOW some of you will disagree with me here - I've found the SMT models to be more reliable than the older designs. With new caps and a good power supply they're the most rock-solid of all my Amigas.

Maybe it's just luck, but I always seemed to have a better time getting things (hardware or software) working on the 3000T.  Plus it's a C= case.  The 4000T's case is pretty lame.  Built-in scandoubler is nice, too.

I just love the A3000 and its elegant case.  Didn't the A3000T win the most hideous award on this website some time ago?  (OK, it's far more rare and more expandable.)

The A3000T case wins the award for the HEAVIEST case of any home computer ever produced.  I am sure four of them could be used as jack stands to support the weight of most cars if you put one at each corner.  It amazes me how heavy my A3000T is compared to my A4000T.  Having a bad back makes me not want to have to move it around if I don't have to.

OT: I've never understood why people say A2000 is ugly. I really like it, it has this industrial, solid feel and it's built like a tank. I prefer it to both the A3000D and A4000D.

I've got both and I gotta say... I'm REALLY diggin' the A3000D. That is one sexy system. Right up there with the A1000. In fact, I'd say they're very similar in sexiness.

I suppose you feel that industrial equipment is attractive?  If so, I can see why you might prefer an A2000 over an A3000 -- or for that matter, over the gorgeous A1200.

a4000d case just looks like a cheapo PC. :)
a1200 is great, but still looks like a regular keyboard. On that range, I would choose Sinclair Spectrum
or one of those msx models:

I don't know - A3000D and A1000 look like computers for pussies - so small with very limited expansion possibilities :)
Not that I would need to compensate for anything with the size of my computer's case :D

I have a pretty pimped A4000D (once I get that elusive Cyberstorm off eBay) and I really like the system, but I'm thinking about selling it and just getting a A2000 even though I would lose AGA, Z3, PCI etc. Or just get the case and put some PC mobo inside of it...

For industrial looks, I hardly think anything can beat a fully expanded TI-99/4A system.

I'd go with "jigsaw puzzle" more than industrial looks.  Thanks for reminding me I have one of those to leave out for the trash man.
