Title: Amiga 2000 psu question
Post by: dougal on January 23, 2010, 09:58:52 AM
I just bought an A2000 for 15 euro on ebay.

It looks like junk (hence the price) and doesnt have a psu.

So, obviously when it arrives i want to test it and try and restore it :P

Does a normal old AT psu work with an A2000? or would i have to get some adapter?

Also, please see the pic, can anyone recognize what there is with it, i.e what are those cards next to it etc...?

considering that looks like an MFM/RLL harddisk (2 flatcables....) in the drivebay, then that board is likely its controllor.
The MFM/RLL setup is *the* slowest harddisk setup you could get.

On the psu.... yes you can... you need to set a jumper in the motherboard + adapt the wiring... it's been covered before here, do a search - I can't remember the details

You can adapt a PC AT-style PSU, I did this years ago on my first A2000.

The A2000 pin outs are here:

http://pinouts.ru/Power/amiga2000power_pinout.shtml

The AT PSU pinouts are here:

http://pinouts.ws/at-power-supply-pinout.html

Just pair the matching wires from the AT pin outs to the A2000 pin outs.

The AT power supply doesnt provide a "tick" signal so you will need to set J300 (Check its J300 on your board, this may vary by board revision!) on the A2000 motherboard to the other postion when using the AT PSU.

Check, check and double check your wiring before powering it up!!

The other card (on the left) looks like some sort of GVP style IDE thingy i guess?

Regarding the AT PSU, sounds great a bit of wiring souldnt take long.

Should be fun restoring this amiga back to its former original glory:)
