A local dude here in San Antonio gave away a Amiga 500 tower kit. I didnt want to see it thrown away and I did not want to take it apart to sell it in pieces. I want to give it to someone who would appreciate it and use it. Now, I will NOT SHIP, PERIOD. You come and get it. If nobody wants it, I'll leave it in storage w/my other Amiga systems.
Here's some info on it:

Wow! I envy you, i have a fetish for black Amiga cases ;)
-
Darn... I wish I could go pick it up... :-(
Lucky the one who gets it!
Cheers

This was one of the first Amiga projects I found online when I started messing with Amiga stuff. Definitely worth a bit of a trip to pick it up, bit too far even for me though.

Tom Weeks finally getting rid of the A500 Tower? Too bad. That thing is famous IMO. I spent many an hour back in the 90's looking over that page and his documentation on Aminet dreaming of doing my own Tower project. I finally started doing my own projects back in late 03, starting with a 3000 tower conversion. Most recently I have my 128 Tower conversion, seen in my avatar. Tom was a major inspiration.
I hope it goes to a good home, someone who doesn't split it up. Free is a steal for this slice of history.

Darn... 1362 miles each way is too much of a drive...

Oh, man. That site and system are legendary to folks like me. How many times I visited his page over the years for hacks and note comparisons as I built up my amiga boxes. If it wern't such a ridiculous distanace for me, that system would be warming my desktop this evening. Does Tom plan to vacate the site too?
-
Boy I'd love to have it, but unfortunately too far for me too.
-
Only 3 hours for me now that I'm back in H-Town for Grad School. Hmm....... and I do have a spare 500 that I'm doing nothing with.....
-
I dont know what Tom is going to do with his site. I didnt ask, he's a busy guy w/various projects goin on. Yea, I've seen this tower at a few Amiga meetings (when we used to have them). Its awesome. If nobody takes it, it wouldnt matter, I'd keep it :)
-
I hope Tom leaves his site up ;if someone could archive it on a DVD that would be cool.Probably a lot of sites go away without anyone saving the arcane info.
-
ok, I changed my mind.. I'll TRADE it for a Mac Mini G4. I'll pay shipping (USA) on this monster, you pay shipping in yours.
I just dont have time to mess with my Amiga stuff (no motivation)..but I would mess around with a Mac Mini.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.. I really put a lot of loving work into that machine. It killed me to just give it away, but I now have a family, was out of space and had to empty out the geek closet. :v/
Amiga really was the most fun computer system ever created. Half the fun was the cool hardware and software that existed.. the other half was the community and people the platform attracted. What a blast. :)
BTW>. for those who don't know.. NewTEk (creators of the Video Toaster, Kiki Stockhammer, etc) are right here in San Antonio. It's like an Amiga Mecca. :)
Alex, I thought it was going to a good home when I gave it to you man. I didn't know that you were going to just trade it for a Mac... I'll contact you off-site to get the contact info of whomever you sent it to.. I have some info for them.
Oh well.. C'est la vie...

That tower is world famous :)
Nice work on both tower and site, used it many times!

Just to let you all know, I just did a backup of his site, and if it gets offline ill put up a working mirror :)

Dude :) I did the same thing last night. heheheh
@Magic: I may have my hands on a Mac Mini G4. I would be a proud caretaker of the Tower of Power. Will PM you (or email me if you still have my email address.)
-
I should have jumped when I saw this. Could of had you drop it @ Altex on I35 and then I could of had them send it to me @ the Carrollton store. But then again, I'm going to be liquidating my stuff soon so it doesn't matter anyways. Just hope it goes to a good home.

Haha, sweet :) I allways do a pull on all goodie sites that I fear will disappear :) My server is full of site rips :)
Just to clear things up, I allways ask the aurthur of the original page before hosting a mirror if his page!

Yeah, but I'm not anywhere near the USA/MEX border... I'm in Mexico City, which is located in the middle of the Country, it would be a ~1400 kilometer (one way) trip to San Antonio... I just can't justify such a trip to go for an A500, eventhough this is a special one.
Cheers,
Dragster

All the above are among the reasons we need a physical:
!!! Amiga Museum !!!
With virtual access too, of course. The Power Tower, the pre-release black box on fleabay, and lots of others. Anyone have a friend at the Smithsonian? :) Maybe Amiga Inc could create an endowment ...

Looks like a great offer. Even if someone else gets it, thanks for supporting the community.

It's fine if you guys mirror the site. Just be sure to link back to the live version.
BTW.. I jus reregistered the domain for ten more years... so it should be around a while. ;)
