Title: FS on ebay - A3000T-040, X-Surf, Deneb, Cybervision and more.
Post by: mauidj on January 18, 2010, 02:01:17 AM
I have just posted my A3000T-040 on ebay. This A3000T is in good overall condition and is working perfectly.  It comes with an Amiga keyboard and Amiga 2 button mouse. Slight case scratches and yellowing. The battery has been removed with no sign of leakage. Includes two floppy drives (one without eject button), CD-ROM Drive (don't know if it works as I have no driver for it) and a brand new 2.1Gig SCSI HD. Also has the Super Buster 11 chip. I have included a complete set of Workbench 3.0 disks and manuals.

Also for sale are brand new X-Surf and Deneb USB boards. Cybervision 64/3D card and other items.

I noticed that you are also selling an AmigaOS 3.9 CD. If it is an original one from pressing factory (no the cd-rs that were distributed here and there) I am interested. Pleae give me detials so that I can bid or make a straight deal with you.

Boy Ebay has changed since I last used it! Anyways, thanks for canceling my bid (pandaninjatux)!!! I rejoined Ebay..just to bid on your item! I still have my Paypal Account that IS verified, but I guess that's not enough these days!

I understand people being worried about getting ripped off on Ebay. I lost over $2k a long time ago...which is why I quit! But, if every seller starts canceling bids from people with ZERO feedback, then nobody new can bid on anything. Crap like this makes me glad I left!

Good luck with your auction!

EDIT: Oh...and no you've ended the auction early....

I'm really sorry to have cancelled your bid but I did state very clearly that zero feedback buyers should contact me first. I would then have done due diligence and we could have continued. A while ago I lost a very expensive Apple computer valued at over $3000 to a zero feedback buyer!
So I just needed to be cautious.
The computer has now been sold. But thank you sincerely for your interest.

Well, had I seen your terms I would have contacted you...Info like that should be at the TOP of the Ad, IMHO. And as a seller (I was a seller on Ebay for a long time) you could have contacted me. Plus you required a paypal account to bid, so it makes it a little more difficult to screw you over. My bid stayed in place for a long time...and then minutes after canceling my bid you cancel the auction. So, in my eyes you canceled my bid so you could end the auction and sell it to someone else that made you a nice offer. This defeats the purpose of Ebay and I personally think that sellers should be fined for such actions. Just my $0.02.

Had the auction continued after you canceled my bid then I would think differently! In the future, I would recommend you place the Ad on this site first and give people here a chance to buy it (you would probably get a better deal too), before putting it on Ebay.

As I said, I lost money on Ebay too...and it was from someone with a high-rating!

I stopped coming to this forum over a year ago because of several abusive and just plain mean spirited comments I received to my newbee questions about using an Amiga.
Guess I'm out of here again. You can assume all you want of my motives but that's all they are is assumptions.
Please don't tell me how I should do things...just because you can't read the whole eBay ad is not my fault.
I did nothing illegal or wrong. I called eBay before removing the listing and actually did it while in contact with them to assure my adherence to the rules.
Like you said...if you had seen the notice you would have contacted me....sounds like your fault not mine.
My listing clearly stated that bids would be removed with no prior contact.
As for selling to someone outside of the system, you are 100% wrong.
Finally I placed the notice on this site to make people aware of the sale. I am under no obligation to give you a chance to buy it before the rest of the world.
Guess I won't bother in future. :-(

I don't think my post was mean-spirited or abusive. It was merely an observation on my part. I admitted to not seeing the terms. I never said you did anything illegal. I also never "told" you how to do anything...merely recommended. As for selling to someone outside the system, I was wrong? Then who bought it? I was the ONLY bidder! Surely you can see things from my point of view...I was the ONLY bidder, my bid was allowed to remain for some time, my bid was canceled, minutes later auction was canceled, then item was apparently sold. I would have had the decency to contact a bidder before canceling the bid...but that's just me. No you are not under obligation to give me or anyone else a chance to buy...you made that clear. Back when I was a seller on Ebay, once you placed an Ad you could not cancel it without a very good reason. I guess that has changed.

If my post(s) offend you then I apologize. But, your actions struck a nerve with me and I merely posted my take on the chain of events. Good luck with your future Ads...I for one will not be bidding on them...

@palemoon

While I can understand your frustration, your bid was canceled in accordance with the terms of the auction. Whoever he sold it to after the fact is irrelevant, simply put this really just sounds like a bunch of sour grapes.

Anyhow, mauidj is a really nice guy, I would bid on his items without hesitation and do appreciate the "heads up" when someone on the forum has auctions going. (Might throw a bid in on the DENEB. ;))

LOL!

Oh the irony. I'm currently having PayPal go after Palemoon (Ed admin@digitalorb.com) for scamming me out of $300 on that Mac Mini system. Lie after lie. Promise after promise. It would appear Mauidj had a sixth sense about him that I ignored all in the name of a "good deal".  Ha!

He's now "punishing" me for filing a claim TWO whole days after he said he'd finally refund my money. Instead, he's ceased all communication AND not going through with the refund. He claims he "lost money" by someone with high feedback on ePay, so not sure if he's hoping to recoup some of that by trying to screw me or what. Ummm wrong. I will not let this die until I get my money back.

BTW: We should have a known bad traders list here. Some of the other forums have such a thread and searching, before purchasing, is real easy. Food for thought.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. Only caught this one as I was doing a search for his other posts. In case there were any red flags that I missed. And yep, there was   ;)

Paypal should get your money back to you, IF this guy has left anything in his Paypal account (bank account and/or credit card). They are pretty good about this - have saved my bacon before!
Hope they can help you out.

I'm still trying to find a cheap C-128 to replace the setup my ex-landlord stole from my while I was moving. I guess we can get it from any/all sides these days! At least I saved the Amigas!!

Thanks Motrucker. Last lie that was told, was that he had his girlfriend "upload" the money to be refunded Sunday/Monday and that he'd have it back to me by Wednesday. Wednesday then turned into Thursday because it takes a day or two for the transfer to complete. Ummm, okay. It was then Friday before I made the claim. So yeah... he's had all sorts of time to rectify this. More than enough time than I'd normally give anyone OR conduct my own business affairs.

And OUCH! about the thieving 128 bastard!

Haven't used ebay for years, but I always thought it was simple as:

Wait until the money is my own bank account not paypal's and then.. and only then send the item through the post.  At least with BIG purchases such as these thats what I would do.

I thought you got one heck of a deal on that mini, and even I thought about getting it for $300 just to get the registered copy of MorphOS.  But, as the old saying goes "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.".   Sorry to hear you got burnt on the transaction and I do hope you recoup your funds.

The Dawg

@tokyoracer - thanks for the correction on the saying!  I did not proof it after writing or I would have caught it.

@save2600

I've used Ebay a LOT and I have to say that I've had very little trouble.  But, one the one occasion that I was scammed on an expensive item (only £50 but hey...), I put a claim into paypal saying that I had not received the item and they actually reversed the transaction immediately.  The money came back to me until finally the dispute was found in my favour and the case was closed.

I think this reversal of funds only happens when you deal with inexperienced sellers though.  If they've been selling successfully for a long time I have a feeling that they become "trusted" and in that case you don't get your money back straight away but, if the dispute is found to be in your favour, you get your money back then.  If the seller can't prove that he sent you the item then you'll get your money back I reckon.

With regard to having a blacklist on here... yeah it *is* a nice idea but I'm not sure it would come to fruition in the real world.  The main problem would be deciding who goes on the blacklist.  That sort of thing would have to be left up to amiga.org moderators, but then you're asking them to get involved in ebay rows and take sides on it.  The issue becomes even more shaky if the row involves two amiga.org members.
So, unfortunately, I don't think a blacklist would ever make it on to here, as nice an idea as it is.

Hope you get your money back,

Apple Hammer

Yeah I hope you get that cash off that theif. eBay puts alot of trust into sellers and buyers but because of this, people do abuse it. Is a real shame as eBay was such a pleasent place many moons ago, how things have changed. . .

Luckily PayPal provides some protection as well.

No - this was NOT an eBay transaction. The scam took place an A.org, hence the publicity here.

This will work if you never plan on using that PayPal account again, because if a reversal occurs then the balance is permanently negative to the tune of the claim. Also have to report any associated cards with that account to your bank as stolen and get the bank to remove the secret direct debit PayPal set up on your account.

And remember even if you do everything by the book with ebay/paypal rules a buyer can do a credit card chargeback something like 6 months later, which PayPal has to honour, and you're in the same boat.

You can definitely protect yourself against a non-delivery claim yes. Significantly not as described claims by unscrupulous PayPal users are always available. eg you sell an A1200 060/PPC card...buy claims that he only received a 4mb A1200 RAM board.

In this case the buyer is told to send back an item (and the timescale is too short of international postage) and once some sort of tracking number proves something was sent PayPal release the funds held into the buyer's account.

So you end up with no money, no PPC card, and a 'free' A1200 4mb RAM board. PayPal always take the buyer's side in these claims, and as the buyer claimed to have received an A1200 4mb RAM board all he has to do is take a picture of it.

Now you know why I never sell anything more than 5 quid via PayPal to international destinations.
