So lets say I have a machine running OS4
I get the urge to play some Turrican 2 and find the adf online
Which of the following will happen:
A: OS4 will load it in an emulator, like UAE
B: OS4 can run it natively, ala WINE on Linux
C: OS4 will look confused and wonder why I am playing a game thats 18 years old
Or something else entirely
Cheers!

If you have installed UAE and launch the game from within UAE, then A will happen.
If you try to launch the game from OS4, then C will happen.

Depends.
If you're running OS4 for classic hardware, just boot the game disk. If you're running OS4 on more modern hardware, you'll need to run it in UAE. Otherwise the game will not load. At all.

How well does UAE work and run on os4 ?
Im using it on linux currently.

The x86 Linux version of EUAE has a JIT compiler and OpenGL-based graphics acceleration support. The PowerPC versions don't have a PowerPC JIT compiler or enough OpenGL support to run the accelerated backend.
OS 4 needs a new Classic Amiga emulator soon. Only system-friendly apps will run without a Classic emulator under the Petunia JIT compiler.

Wow I thought that the emulator was integrated into os4, like just point and click and classic apps would run....
Aros is making great strides towards this now, the mouse syncs up but I think there is still work to be done to get the sound and joystick to work
right. I think this should be completed very soon.
When this is done, you will not really notice that a classic app is not running natively, it will be just like running a native app. I say a prayer every day that this will be completed for AROS soon.
I thought MorphOS and OS4 already had this feature?
Like I thought UAE was integrated into OS4 especially and just ran most classic apps like native?
I'm not sure why I thought that. Sounds like running classic apps on os4 is no better than running them on windows or linux then... That is like the only reason I would be interested in os4 or morph, because of the classic apps integration...
Does anyone know if they plan on doing the integration thing like AROS?

The problem is that there are a couple of emulators. Petunia on OS 4 will run non-hardware-banging software using native Picasso 96 video and AHI audio with its JIT compiler. Trance on MorphOS does the same thing but with CyberGFX video. EUAE actually emulates the chipset but doesn't have a PowerPC JIT compiler for the processor.
Petunia is not GPL like the rest of EUAE. That prevents the JIT compiler from being used with the chipset emulation. Since the new hardware will have a multithreaded sidekick chip, I'd expect new chipset emulation to be released for it eventually.

System-friendly stuff only. Final Writer: Yes. ImageFX: Yes. AmigaAMP: Yes. Any bootable game: No.
A good rule of thumb is that if it works on your A4000's RTG card, it'll work on OS4 or MorphOS (MophOS's compatibility is better).
Does anyone know if they plan on doing the integration thing like AROS?
Nothing's been announced, but I strongly suspect something like Classic for MacOSX is in the works for OS4.

If you're running OS4 for classic hardware, just boot the game disk.
If you've already booted OS4, would you have to cold-boot for that to work? My understanding is that Kickstart 4.x disables the 68k CPU meaning you wouldn't be able to boot from a floppy containing 68k software.

It seems a bit odd that OS4 has less compatability with classic Amiga software than say Windows running WinUAE?
Glaring ommission would be one thought that springs to mind, until you realise that post Commodore, most of the people who persisted with the platform were people who are more interested in the OS and apps than its games.
This is a bit confusing for the majority of past Amiga owners who come from a gaming focussed experience and wonder where all the cool OS4 games are.
