Title: does James D. Sachs work on loads of amiga games?
Post by: mantisspider on November 13, 2003, 02:27:23 AM
Hi, is  James D. Sachs part of the forum?
all his art work on this site looks like they are out of games. got me thinking did he make the originals for the games or did he copy the games and recreate his own versions? like rolf harris copying the masters on bbc1.

:-) well everyone else is thinking the same thing...

The game was originally created on the Amiga platform in 1986 by Cinemaware with wonderful graphics by James D. Sachs and great music by Jim Cuomo, then ported to the PC whilst keeping its original appeal and quality.

Commodore commisioned me to do a new version of Defender of the Crown just for CDTV, sort of a Director's cut. I spent two years programming it, writing a new musical score, and adding new graphics. I even managed to put translations of the game in 5 languages on the same CD. Sadly, Commodore went out of business before it could go into worldwide release.

mmmmmmmmmmm Defender of the Crown 2

Jim Sachs was responsible for the artwork on quite a few Amiga games, the most famous being "Defender of the Crown" by Cinemaware. He also did the CD interface and startup screen for the CDTV (the CD interface was re-used on the CD32). His artwork has graced the covers of many Amiga magazines and is still impressive even by todays standards (Jim usually worked in just 32 colours - less if colour-cycling was needed). Many of Jim's amazing images are on display in the gallery here at Amiga.org. He is currently working on a freshwater version of his wonderful "Serene Screen Aquarium" see www.serenescreen.com for more details.

MantisSpider: Don't forget Dan Malone (of Speedball II and Chaos Engine fame) - another truly great Amiga artist!

Could that be the same screen saver i saw at my local harvey norman  store about two years ago on the latest PCs?

I remember it was a very cool screensaver cause it wasnt like the normal fish in a tank. It was fully 3D and it looked very real!!

jim sachs lost or not that is the question , he just wanted to stay within economical places, amiga once was so, it might happen again...

anyway he did his last work on amiga in 93 , and he has by far the most interesting profile within games and the actual start of high quality gfx.

his fishtanks screensavers is awesome and some is even beeing ported to dvd players etc atm as an pause picture or standby..

really nice.

Which is ironic, considering this platform that has used the slogan "Keep the momentum going!!" has one hell of a time doing just that  :-(

Yes, that's the Marine Aquarium screensaver from his current company called SereneScreen (http://www.serenescreen.com/)  :-) How about an AmigaOS 4.0 version, Jim?  *hint* *hint* Hyperion/Eyetech/Amiga Inc. :-D  ;-)
