Title: Benq G2020HD - Great monitor for Amiga
Post by: Everblue on December 23, 2009, 04:17:13 PM
I have received my minimig lately and wanted to play it on a TFT monitor. After quite some searching, I managed to find a monitor which accepts 50hz AND has the option to view the image at its native aspect ratio.

These are my findings with the G2020HD being used with a minimig:

PRO

1. Had no problems to sync at 50hz and gave me a nice crisp picture
2. No blurring!
3. Has option to display in 4:3 as per original aspect
4. Vertical scrolling is perfect (tested with pinball dreams! :) )

CONS

1. Horizontal scrolling for some reason is not perfect, I can notice a slight tearing effect every 1 cm or so. Its not that bad, after a while you stop noticing it.....  but it would have  been great if it wasnt there (noticed it in Silkworm, Project X)

Maybe someone can tell me why this happens.

To sum it up, I think its hard to find a better TFT monitor than this one.

thanks for the info :-)

I noticed that most BenQ monitors support 50Hz but I didn't know it kept the proportions

Do you know if any of the new LED monitors made by LG, BenQ and others accept 50Hz?

Update:

I put the pixel clock on the monitor to 0% and now the scrolling is real smooth, and the tearing is gone. I cannot recommend this monitor enough!

@Nostromo

a Spanish Amiga user has a BenQ G922HDL (LED backlight monitor) connected directly to his A4000 without scandoubler! He has written that it doesn't handle interlaced modes well and that he has not got 4:3 working (I guess he has not found the option to switch to 4:3 like you did because both monitors seem to have similar controls)

Perhaps BenQ monitors are the future monitors of Amiga users? It's not my favourite brand but finding one monitor that accepts 50Hz is difficult. If it accepts 15Khz is a dream come true!

Hi,

I never said that use could use it without scandoubler :)
Minimig has inbuilt scan doubler so it outputs at 31khz....  I havent bothered with interlaced modes (after all I got ithis to play games on) - as for 4:3 there is an option in the monitor.

For Amigas with scandoubler I can recommend 19" HP 1950T.
It supports 50Hz on native 1280x1024 TFT matrix.
BTW, Amiga works best with 5:4, not 4:3.

"Great monitor for Amiga" is quite misleading...perhaps "Great monitor for MiniMig" would have been better?

Personally, I expected a thread showing us a modern 15khz compatible monitor when reading the title.

Just a word of advice...nice find though :)

It's big brother, the G2420HD *does* support 15kHz modes.

Possible the G2020HD does as well?

What about new BenQ v2400 Eco models, do these work in 15Khz too?
