Maybe you could help continue this port to AROS?

Scratch your head and appear to help?!!? If you do that, I'll be out of a job

Just signed in.
Come on!!!
make it happen!!!!

The petition could be worded better. It's all about why Amiga users need EA, but in the end EA will be asking, "Why do we need you?"
Just a thought. I signed it anyway, even though PPaint is way better :-D
-
I'm usually the last person to be discouraging about such things, but this just ain't gonna happen. EA is (more or less) the NVidia of the games industry. (I was originally gonna say Microsoft, but I think NVidia is more appropriate.) They just don't play in small markets anymore. And do they still write applications? Maybe you could convince them to release the code, but if it was done in assembly, that's still not going to be much help. IMHO, it's best to put our weight behind a smaller publisher. Does anyone know if Cloanto has plans for a PPC Personal Paint?

EA have never played in small markets.. that's why they used to do software for the Amiga ;-)
Anyway AROS's UberPaint, is written in C and opensource so why doesn't someone work on it? It would be easily portable to both MOS and OS4...
-
Now lets see.....
For all we know it is quite likely to be cooded in asm (68k), does alot of
direct HW-acceses, doesn't support truecolor,and and and ......
Would say that bloodline's idea of investing time in any opensource
replacement is the best we will ever get.
Also remember that EA dropped DP when Amigas were still counted
in 6 to 7 digit figures, not very likely that they would bother with a
market that would be very hard pressed to come up with 10000
active users.

Ah yes. You know i put my name on that!! Hey check out Ultimate Paint. Its a lot like Dpaint.

Signed it, for what ever good it will do. What happened to MorphOS support? :-P
AROS - looks neat, but, until it shows up on hardware other than PC's hardware (don't have any / will not buy any), its a waste. When a version that will work on a PPC system is ready for prime time - call me! :-D
-
Unfortunately I have to agree with people who claim that EA will not bother with the Amiga. :-(
No point in signing it.

It's certainly not a waste, and yes work is still going to get it fully functional on the PPC.

That's a great idea, but do not wait this to happen on Amiga... :-x
A new PC version (with anim support) would be fun, just remember the ultimate tool Animbrush :-D

I love your shameless plugs! Keep it up!!! :-)

????????
i am so confused right now
i just saw "don't say a word" and now i find this thread, my mind is messed up
why would anyone want EA to come back to the amiga with DPaint? If EA is ever to come back the Amiga, on the list of EA products I think DPaint isnt up high on list of EA software I want seen on OS4.
Once they have finished porting all their games and harry potter included then get working on DPaint :-S
there is more of a chance of Jasc bringing PaintShopPro and their other apps over to Amiga than EA coming back. PSP would be pretty cool, cos its already compatible with basically everything out there already. PSP was the only app I used to use on my PC so I could open IFF files back in the old days.
I think the idea of getting the rights to PPaint is more realistic than EA giving anything up. Bet they wouldnt even know where to look. Hmmmm under 'A' for amiga maybe.....
UberPaint looks so similar its scary.
I always thought Disney Animation Studio had the best anim engine on the amiga. Best onion skinning. DPaint's onion skinning was very poor in comparison. The only pants thing about Disney was needing to save ur work, then loading up the seperate app to colour in your drawings and then saving and having to load up the editor to finish your anim. would have been better to have the colour and draw together and then export to the edit suite.
I lost too many anims being corupted going from one app to the other, I have no idea why.
my opinion on the best anim apps could have more clout if i ever used that rombo thingy that Rolf Harris used to have on the Rolf Harris Cartoon Club.
"see you on Rohoholfs Cartoon club... *flick*boing*flick* next week" jammy little buggers... overhead cameras and the lot

Anyone interested in a DPaint "alike" program for the PC or Mac should check out Mirage here (http://www.bauhaussoftware.com) - It's a bang up-to-date version of NewTek's Aura which was in turn a reworking of the Amiga's TVPaint 24-bit painting program. TVPaint was very similar in methodology to Deluxe Paint and Mirage even has animbrushes! TVPaint for the Amiga is available as a free download here (http://www.amigau.com/c-graphics/tvpaint.htm) and is still a great app (for gfx card users only though).

Why would they start developing this again? Its not goign to make them any money, its not a professional package, just something to dap around with.
If you ask me, we should be asking them to release the souce.. I.e make it open!
[EDIT]
Infact, that screen shot gave me an idea. I think theres a few Amiga like apps running around and certainly some games that are open source. Such as UberPaint above! Although im guessing that the AROS guys did this? Cause i couldnt find anything like it on the web!
But theres also an application called "worker" which is a ripoff of that file manager for the Amiga... directory opus or something????
I've also got a shuffle puck cafe clone on my linux box that i play a lot! Maybe we should make a list of all the Open Source amiga-like apps that would be great to be ported back to either AmigaOS/MorphOS/AROS??? :)
Because seriously, i dont think any company in their right mind is going to port back applications if they've already left it. Theres hardly any market! Plus, as i said, packages like DPaint arnt going to make anyone any money. I certainly wouldnt pay for it when i can get GIMP for free, which is much more powerful!

You've gota love his plugs :) But this isnt a plug! We should be supporting his idea all the way. As far as im concerned, the topic should be changed to "Lets port Uber Paint to AmigaOS/MorphOS !!!"

Could we have more information on this?!
Please email us directly!
Answer: EA specifically needs to do this:...
Thank you.

Yeah, exactly.
I was working as a programmer on Harry Potter for EA (just finished last month) and I am afraid to say, I think the chances of an Amiga version are pretty slim. The chances of a new version of DPaint are even slimmer still. In fact, if they turned sideways they'd disappear.
As far as EA is concerned, they need to make money to stay in business, and the Amiga, and Dpaint, have absolutely zero potential to make money.

Even though I already signed, I'll have to agree... :-D
