Hi. I want to install CGX4 but dont know about the correct 'installation sequence'. I have a BvisionPPC.
1) Do I first install CGX3 from the OS3.9 CD, or should I start with CGX4?
2) And regarding CGX4, I know there are patches on this site:
http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?id=3
And I figured I need that 'RC5' update. But do I install this on a plain CGX4 installation, or should I install all the previous patches too?
3) Last, do I need to configure CGX4 before installing any the patches? Like, renaming the CvisionPPC driver to BvisionPPC? I've noticed the installer looks specifically for either one of these files, see.
Thanks for your help.

I think, last time i did it, i installed cgx4, then the latest patch, then went about configuring it.
-
My opinion: Straight CGX4 and the latest patch - at least what I've done years ago. Don't the docs tell the order to adapt Bvision PPC ?(I'm CVision/Voodoo man)

Zipper is correct just install cgx4 right away with the latest patch.
This latest patch (or an update of cgx4 after BB2 release date) is vital for correct working of CGX v4 with OS3.9 Boing Bag 2, it updates the cgxsystem.library if remember correctly.
If you do not install this patch CGX will not work at all with BB2.
Installed multiple A1200's with bppc+bvision perfectly this way and also A4000's with csppc+cvision.
The RC5 update is the correct one, just only install this update, no previous versions needed.
When installing the RC5 patch you do not have to do any renaming, just install the patch and reboot.
During boot (if you do not use a scandoubler etc. i use a m1538s for AGA)) the monitor connected to the Bvision should switch on and go in standby mode.
Select the bvision and desired screen res in the prefs, not all resolutions are defined at start, you'll have to create a whole bunch of them,a nice custom one is 1152x900x15

Thanks, will try now.

Btw is see you have 060 blizzppc, be sure to have the latest 68060 library, or else cgx will also not work at all in combination with os3.9+bb2.

yep, got those from the same site, thanks!

Excellent, Ive got CGX4.3 working. Did need the original cdrom though. Now setting up a new monitor preset. Finally I can enjoy my Amiga in a proper resolution.
Thanks, all!

Great to hear it all worked out fine!
Ennuh kom je nog met de Amiga naar maarssen de 19e ?
-
who are you? :) no, I wont be there. it will take a full month until my Amiga is working the way I want it to.
-
Not wishing to hijack the thread but it is directly related.
I've got a CVPPC that I installed with CGX 4 and the RC5 update. However, with 3.9BB2 installed, I have to 'SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES 'exec.library' QUIET' in the Startup-Sequence or I don't see any CGX modes listed in the Screenmodes prefs screen.
Am I doing something wrong or is this the best it gets? I was under the impression as is stated in this post that the latest RC fixes BB2 issues.

@dangermouse
check if the installer have correctly copied the .info in Devs:Monitors/
-
My apologies for a dumb question but what .info needs to be in Devs:Monitors? At work at the moment but I can check tonight if I know what to look for :)

in your case that would be CvisionPPC.info
also check there is a preset for your monitor in presets/

This question has been asked many times, but forgive me for asking it again.
Which is the best/latest 68060 library and where can it be found to download it from?
Also, would the answer be the same for a Blizzard 68060 card (no PPC) and for a CyberStorm PPC w/68060/50MHz and 604e/233MHz?

Thanks for the link, but I was hoping for advice from members who have actually used the files and could tell me which libraries are best and why. Which flash updates are best for my CSPPC and why. Etc.
There are different versions of the same files and flash updates on that site and the readme files are very short, or non-existent to help the uninformed choose which files, libraries, or flash updates they should download and use.
-
well if you actually look at the link provided, there's only one v 46.15 68060.library, and that's the one you want. WHY ? because it's latest.
and there's no flash update for CSPPC, cause it doesn't have a flashable rom. You're getting mixed up with BPPC.

I think you had better have another look at the three flash update files found at that site. They are all labeled "BlizzardPPC 040/060, CSPPC and CSMK3".
See that "CSPPC" in the middle, to me that stands for Cyberstorm PPC cards.
Now, maybe you are right and the CSPPC cards can't be flashed if what you say is correct and they don't have a "flashable rom", but the flash files are clearly labeled for all three different Phase5 boards.
As for your other comment, "latest files" should be the best, but in practice, sometimes they are found not to be in certain circumstances, or on certain boards. That is why I asked my questions.
Edit: Also, if the latest 060 library is always the best for all boards in all circumstances, why keep the older version available on the site for download if no one is ever going to need it?
-
I have the latest files except CSPPC flash which has the latest "official" because I don't need what the latest upgrades gave (G-Rex support etc).

Is there some place on any site that you know of that provides more explanation of each file, or do the uncompressed files contain readme files, or log files with information on each update and what was changed?
-
Fixed my driver issue anyway thanks guys.
Problem was, even after installing the update, my cgxsystem.library was only v 42 and not 42.7 which it currently is. Investigating why not it appears that my original cgxsystem.library did not have the correct permissions so the patch could not be applied.
I keep getting this issue and only when using a CF card that is being used inside WinUAE to install certain items (I used WinUAE to install CGX V4). The permissions just keep getting buggered up and I have no idea why.
Anyway, problem solved for now thank you.

of course even CSPPCs firmware can be updated

Done it a couple of times, I think the oldest firmware didn't even have the early CSPPC startup setup.
