Nope, the hard drive could care less about a battery in your system. It's just there to keep time when the computer is off. Remove immediately if it doesn't hold a charge before its acid leaks all over and ruins circuitry!

Thanks  Thats what I though as well. I have a mtec at 500 with hd hooked up and it wont boot  Its not the drive and the maching boots from floopy when disconected. There is also 3.1 rom in the case of the mtec at 500 thats not worrking either It worked 5 months ago before we moved. Its driving me nuts   Short drive.  Thanks for your input

have you opened the mtec ? is everything in place ? check SCSI cables, terminators, if any ... you may have to connect the harddrive to your pc and see what's going on ...

I had a problem with one of my 500s that wouldn't boot, the battery was dead in the memory expansion.  As soon as I pulled the board the machine booted.   Since your machine boots when the drive is removed I'd suggest checking the drive's chips to see if any became loose when you moved.  I'd also change your battery, you don't want them leaking.

Thanks Guys  Yes I replaced the battery Clock works great boots from floppy everthings great till I plug the at 500 in then for the most part  Its Dead  Almost seems like the power supple is bad However I changed that too.  Funny thing IS if I just dissconect the drive and leave the board pluged in the kickstart don't even come up   Thanks
