Title: Graphics Cards

I read somewhere that to install AmigaOS 3.9/4.0/4.1 it is better to have a graphics card. Is this right? If so then are there any graphics card for the A1200? and would this fit in the original case?

The only graphics card for the A1200 is the BlizzardVision, but you need to have a Blizzard PPC to use it. It will fit in the case, but you need to take care of the power/heat dissipation issues.

You can use OS 3.9 without a graphics board allright. I believe OS 4.0 on AGA is also possible. But probably not a pleasant experience. Note that you need a Blizzard PPC for OS 4.0. And 4.1 is just not present for classic amigas.

Thanks for the information, I knew about the PPC but did not have any knowledge of graphics card. With a PPC and Graphics board in an A1200 is the experience of OS4.1 good? or it still not a good experience?

Once again, there's no 4.1 for classics. You can't use 4.1. You can only use 4.0, which you can buy from your favorite retailer.

As for the experience, I don't know, I have a CyberstormPPC+CyberVision setup, I bought and installed 4.0 just for the sake of it, but I still use my ClassicWB setup mostly. 4.0 don't have drivers for my X-Surf ethernet board, (you need to do some tricks to use 68k drivers I believe which I didn't bother) and generally some pain to setup properly. Your mileage may vary though. Check youtube for some videos to see how it looks like.

OS4.1 is not available for A1200's with or without a PPC accelerator. You need to get a Sam/Pegasos 2/AmigaOne motherboard to run that.

OS4.0 is available for a 1200 with PPC (you really do need a gfx card for this) but i would suggest paying for a new Sam motherboard, or second hand peg2, and getting OS4.1 as it is much better, and not too different in the price paid.

I guess based on this info, if you have a classic Amiga, (non AGA), you can only go up to Amiga OS 3.9?

Nope, you can use other ones also, like a CV64/3D with Zorro bus or Voodoo3 with a Mediator.
