Title: Whdload tooltypes
Post by: lauri.lotvonen on November 25, 2009, 05:59:43 PM
I have this problem, that Slam Tilt (AGA) does not start when loaded from
OS 3.9, but loads fine when started without startup-sequence, and with preload option used. The game requires 2 mb chipmem and 1mb othermem.
I assume that when loaded from OS, the chipmem runs out (just black screen, have to boot from that point). Is there a tooltype that forces whdload to use only or mostly Fast ram? Or is this even my problem ?

Thanks again. :)

Try booting 3.9, then select a low-res screenmode with 4 colors to free some chipmem. If the game then works, you've narrowed it down.

If it's a chipmem issue, see this thread (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50394) for some ideas. I play SlamTilt from WB all the time, so it's definitely "doable". :) (My apologies if you've already tried all this.) There aren't any WHDLoad tooltypes I'm aware of to help here.

How much Chipmem do you have free when you run SlamTilt ?
BTW, all other games that ran out of memory gave me an error message, this one does not, only a black screen and "tilt" as the name of the game suggests :roflmao:.

LOL, I'll have to check when I get home from work... somewhere between 1.6 and 1.8MB IIRC.

OK, 1.76MB chipmem after booting, and SlamTilt works.

What other hardware do you have? WHDLoad chokes if networking or USB is active, at least on Zorro machines.

Have you tried the usual compatability tooltypes? PAL, NTSC, NOAUTOVEC, NOCACHE, and (as a last resort) NOVBRMOVE ?

Turning USB off from Trident helped, hooray :biglaugh: !!
And I have 1.29 MB of free Chipmem when starting SlamTilt.

Thanks to everybody involved, I can always count on you guys:o.

Hi:
This thread can be from a long time ago, but now I have the chip memory up from 64% to 76%, and I have installed a subway USB too and now the WHDload games work.

Thank you!

(I DON'T KNOW IF I MAKE IT RIGHT OR WRONG, BUT I PUT THIS POST SO THIS THREAD SO INTERESTING WILL BE ON "TOP" AGAIN )

I've just started playing with WHDLoad for the first time.

I took a basic OS3.9 install for my A4000, used that to create a "Classic Workbench" environment using the "Classic Workbench AGA" package, renamed and copied the KS1.3 and 3.1 ROMS into the correct DEVS draw, downloaded, unzipped and copied all of KillerGorilla's WHDLoad files into the correct folders and discovered that it is very hit & miss as to whether games work or not.

For example:

Alien Breed Tower Assualt AGA - works perfect.
Defender of the Crown - hangs during the intro.
UFO Enemy Unknown AGA & CD32 - both state that the wrong kickstart A1200 kickstart file is found.
Xenon 2 Megablast - works perfect.
Dune 2 - hangs during intro (after selecting language).

Don't know if it is my Warp Engine 68040 card that is causing the problem.

Configuration:
A4000 with 16MB on mobo, Warp Engine 68040 with FPU and 64MB, Mediator 4000, Indivision4000, Fast ATA4000 (Workbench on 35GB SFS partition of a 80GB hard drive), Deneb, Soundblaster PCI, Cybervision 643D & Virge PCI cards using P96.

Darrin,

Have you tried stopping Poseidon before running the games?
This seems to work for me...

No, I haven't.

Thanks for that tip - I'll give it a go.

Cheers.

In my experience 040 causes quite a lot of compatibility problems - on a basic A4000 ClassicWB setup with A3640 cca 20+% of games don't want to run. While the CPU's probably not the only problem, just upgrading to Cyberstorm 060 helped in almost half the cases...

If that ends up being the solution, you could always set WHDLOAD to stop POSEIDON on launch and then restart poseidon when you quit out of WHDLOAD..

Of course I'm way too lazy to do that myself so I just stop Poseidon every time I want to use WHDLOAD ;)

(Coincidentally, I have a WarpEngine 040 as well..)

You were right.  All I need to do for the locked-up games is turn the Deneb controller offline in the TRident prefs and they work a treat.  Thank you.  :)

Unfortunately I still have the issue with the kick40068.A1200 ROM image on a few games.  :(
