Hello
I've just received two PPC accelerators (Blizzard for my A1200 desktop and CyberstormPPC for my A4000 desktop) and want to get some operating systems installed. Both cards have 060 processors and, as the 'best' processor I've ever had is my current WarpEngine 040/40, I'm thinking I may be a little out of my depth.
So, my questions are:
1. Both systems have 16GB CF cards installed. In what way should they be partitioned? I currently have a 1GB 'Workbench' partition, 1GB 'Apps' partition and the remainder as a 'Games' partition. I would like to keep it reasonably similar if possible from the 3.9 point of view but maybe I need to rethink this a little. I would like the default OS to be 3.9.
2. What tool should I use to partition? When doing a new install I usually use HDToolbox on the 3.1 install disk to create 'Workbench' and 'Apps' then create the 'Games' partition once 3.9 is up and running. I usually install 3.9 over 3.1 as I never had any luck with the Emergency Boot Disk.
2. Do I install 3.9 or 4.0 first?
3. With the 060, can I install 3.1 like I usually do or not? I seem to remember reading that the 68060.library was needed or nothing would work. Not planning on installing 3.1 (just 3.9/4.0) but was wondering all the same.
Any tips greatly appreciated as I'm definitely beyond my 'comfort' zone here :( My apologies if my questions are noobish or technically stupid but hopefully the replies will clear it all up for me :)
Thanks

I guess there arent to many Blizzard PPC users out there!

I'm happy with CSPPC users too ;) Not fussy!

Hello
I've just received two PPC accelerators (Blizzard for my A1200 desktop and CyberstormPPC for my A4000 desktop)
I can help you with the Blizzard PPC.
You can't use the onboard scsi on BPPC with OS4.0 (it doesn't include a driver), you have to use the internal IDE or get a Fast-ATA (or similar) as i did. I always make the first partition >2GB just in case.
You could first install OS4.0 and partition the CF with PartitionWizard for both OS3.9 & 4.0. But don't touch the OS4.0 partitions later with OS 3.9 HDToolBox (it COULD fuck up the partitions, not sure though).
3. With the 060, can I install 3.1 like I usually do or not? I seem to remember reading that the 68060.library was needed or nothing would work. Not planning on installing 3.1 (just 3.9/4.0) but was wondering all the same.
You can install 3.1 normally, see your PM :-)
Any tips greatly appreciated as I'm definitely beyond my 'comfort' zone here :( My apologies if my questions are noobish or technically stupid but hopefully the replies will clear it all up for me :)
Thanks
No prob!

iirc last time i did a clean install on my A1200 i booted upp os4 from the bootfloppy and installed OS4 and then i booted os4 from the harddrive and installed OS3.9,I think i did get a grim reaper at some point when installing 3.9 but i could continue.
I would create two or three partitions for AmigaOS installations. each one would be 1gb. then i would create a partition for apps and one big partition for mp3 and other downloads. i usualy also creates one small partition if i want to use diskcache in Ibrowse because it has happend in the past that ibrowse has screwed my partition with the cache even if it has to be 5 years or more since it happend last time

@Bamiga - thanks! That will help me a lot. Will give it all a go over the next few days as, right this minute, I'm an IDEFix short on my 1200 and a motherboard short on my 4000..both of which are in the mail.
@smf - and thanks to you. I guess you're right in that if I have one Apps: partition with two directories (i.e. '68k' and 'PPC' for example) in the root of Apps: I can install everything cleanly to their respective folders. I'm assuming this won't cause issues? Hadn't actually thought of it that way...was being a bit narrow-minded by assuming I may need 2 distinct 'Apps' partitions.
Thanks to you both though!!
