Title: Hooking a CD-ROM up to my desktop A1200
Post by: dangermouse on November 20, 2009, 09:43:34 AM
Hello all

I've just picked up a Blizzard PPC and AmigaOS 4.0 install CD/floppy for my desktop A1200 but don't currently have a CD-ROM hooked up to her.

I checked on AmigaKit and have found 4 IDE interfaces that will get me out of trouble. The price varies quite wildly but I don't really know the difference between them.

Can someone recommend the IDE interface I need to buy given the following conditions:

* Needs to install into an A1200 desktop with IndivisionAGA and Blizzard PPC
* Needs to be usable/supported in setting up AmigaOS 4.0 (I'm not sure what drivers are on the boot floppy)
* Ideally I'd like it to be easily removable so I can use it in my other 1200s/600s if needed.

I'll only need the CD-ROM support to install OS 4.0. After that I'll use Ethernet to transfer files to/from the Amigas.

Thanks in advance

:)

Could I suggest... if you already have the compact flash solution - use your PC (WINUAE) to transfer the install set to your flash card and install it from there?

Oops - sorry thats probably not an option as I neglected to notice you are wanting it for OS4.0.

I used to have a 4 way buffered IDE adapter which worked well for the CD Rom (OS3.1 though) and a slimline external CD Rom drive with the Alegro Floppy boot disk.  I used it to put on 3.9 cd at the time.  I don't have the IDE adapter any more but I have the CD Rom Drive and boot disk.  Don't know if it would help you but if you need the drive for a loan of just to install and send back - let me know.

Many thanks for the offer but, as I'm in NZ, it's probably not an option.

I did find some posts around the place with people installing OS4 on a 1200 with an IDEFix Express adapter so I've picked one of those up. I'll just use an external PC drive I've got modded with a ribbon cable hanging out the back to install.

Thanks again for the offer though
