Title: DiscreetFX is GIVING me a FREE A4000T!!!!!!
Post by: J-Golden on November 17, 2009, 04:22:45 AM
EVERYONE!!! EVERYONE!!!

Christmas has come early to the luckiest man alive!  Pyromania (founder of DiscreetFX (http://www.discreetfx.com)) read my post:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50183

And was touched by all the good times I had in Amigadom and how I had been hurting without my miggy and my miggy friends since I sold it to pay for wedding expenses and moved far far away...

WHO CARES ABOUT THE BACK STORY!!!

This guy ROCKS!!!  I know there are people who are strugling to make a living off of the Amiga, but here is someone who is trying to keep the AMIGA living regardless of money!

For this great gift, I do NOT have to get a Hottie (http://www.discreetfx.com/documents/HottieInvest.jpg) tattoo, promise to sell X number of their products, fly out for a commercial, or become an annoying "Discreet FX is the only cool thing on Amiga" guy (Though it really DOES rock ;)  ).

The only statute was that I HAD to have FUN!!!  I had to promise to ENJOY the A4000T...

It was a hard decision, but I agreed... :-D

As I said in my other post, THIS is what the Amiga is.  Sure, the community is based on excellent, innovative  hardware, but the users and supporters are more about keep the experience, the spirit of it all, alive...

Thank you Amiga, Amegabyte Computers (Uwe and Allen), NCAUG and everyone else for all these wonderful memories and THANK YOU DiscreetFX (http://www.discreetfx.com) for my new promising Amiga future!

Wow that is just a fantastic thing they are doing.

I read your thread and feel the same way you did. I came back to amiga through aros about a year ago. Since aros didn't really run classic apps great I got amiga forever and put together a dedicated amiga emulation
box. This pc boots straight to amiga os3.x (replaced windows shell) from amiga forever, or amikit if I like. I thought this would quiet my thirst for all things amiga but it just made me want a real classic amiga worse I think :)

I keep looking, but the prices of anything decent are just too high. I'm laid off right now, another victim of the recession I guess so I just don't have alot of spare money. In time, I'd REALLY love an A1200 or A4000.

I got an amiga 2000 motherboard that works from a friend but I have no case, ps, floppy, floppy cable, hd controller, hd, scandoubler, accellerator... Yeah looks pretty discouraging looking at the list...It will also need amiga os 3.1 roms and a floppy copy of amiga os3.9 I guess.
I have no keyboard, no mouse. sheesh...

I have an old full tower case I'm trying to cut apart to fit the board.
If anyone else is feeling generous, you can send me some amiga parts,
or a complete amiga would be great :) Right now I'm looking at an amiga 2000 motherboard and monitor I can't even power up :(

Honestly, I would appreciate any spare parts anyone may have. I have plenty of pc parts around, but no amiga parts. While I'm waiting for extra cash or parts... I am using my emulation pc and dreaming of the smoothness of real amiga hardware...

Congrats on your new amiga. I hope you do have fun with it!

Steven

Kudos to DiscreetFX! How incredibly cool of them, but not surprised since the last few postings of theirs have been more or less charitably themed. Great company!

That's absolutely fantastic - big hugs to DiscreetFX :D !

From that thread, the thing I miss about the "old days" is the small specialised stores who had staff that knew and cared about things, and were passionate about the products.  I guess this applies to many different products, whether your local greengrocer or butcher, hardware store, or computer store!  Or another of my hobbies, car audio.

Now we've got PC World and Currys (or Best Buy or Circuit City - although one of those has gone under!) with staff who want to sell anything providing they can sell extended warranties and get their comission.  Or supermarkets selling everything at tiny margins so there's no room for someone to provide a premium priced service...

Perhaps that's why, despite the cheesiness, I genuinely like apple stores: there's people in there who really care, know their stuff, and get a kick from helping people.  Hmm...

Enough nostalgia!  Enjoy the 4000T!  That's a great gesture from DiscreetFX.

Did I mention I had to sell ALL my Amiga kit so I could make a down payment on a house and not become a homeless hobo wandering the streets of london with my can of hidden cheap beer? LOL

Nice xmas for you, hope you have many happy times with your new toy there :)

What an awesome gesture by DiscreetFX.  I hope it comes back to them 100 fold.  I believe if you are in a position to help someone you should, especially in these hard times.  Believe me I know, for I have been on both sides of that fence.

The Dawg!

Fantastic!

I am so glad they still support the Amiga and Video Toaster along with the PC and Mac. Bill Panagouleas at DiscreetFX is always very active and very good about responding on the Newtek Video Toaster forum. When I am employed again I will definitely be buying some of their products.

In these tough economic times it's nice to be able to make someone happy, especially an Amiga fan. Soon you will be enjoying your A4000T, J-Golden. Might want to start hunting down a CF IDE adapter so you can boot your system fast and with no moving parts.

@motorollin

CarFX comes with a free car.

http://www.discreetfx.com/CarFX.html

But it's hooked to the flash drive and too small to drive.

Ha, I'm easier than that, I just need a grille for a 71 AMC Javelin. :)

Nice gift DFX, and happy day for J-Golden. Small bits of good news in troubled times.

Outstanding random act of kindness!  Be sure to pass it on (the kindness, not the 4000T) :-)

Hi,

@J-Golden,

Wow that was really nice of DiscreetFx giving you a A4000 Tower.

Yes I to have an old obsolete A4000 with a Picasso II video card, a GVP IV24 card and video switcher, but mine is a desktop, I also have an X-surf card (which I never could get to work) and a A3640 accelerator. What do I do with this machine, I keep all my important stuff on it, like my software database, my magazine database, my important paper database, and of course my check book program. This is stuff I wouldn't trust having on a  PC, why?  because when I did it had crashes at least once every 6 months.  I have had my obsolete A4000 since 1992 and I can't ever remember it crashing. I know I purposely crashed it one time when I accidently reformatted the hard drive, but I had all my stuff backed up on my spare hard drive by using diskmaster and LHARC, best backup program I have ever seen, good compression and it was pretty darn fast.

Well anyhow enjoy your obsolete computer and remember if you have a PC that is windows based, the final word is BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP or use Linux.

Will I ever get rid of my obsolete computer? not as long as it boots faster than a PC, and the joystick moves faster than a MAC's and a PC's joystick, because we all know the faster the joystick the more fun we have.

Thank you DiscreetFX, it is people like you in the Amiga Community, that keep it going, and keep people interested and coming back.
