According to Sysinfo the MMU is off an my 3000, is there any benefit os turning it on? If I use a 3640 card on the same macine it says the MMU is on, are there differences between the 030 and 040 as to why one is on and the otehr isn't?
thanks

One advantage is that with an MMU you can use Virtual Memory programmes (or at least the ones I remember reading reviews of).

MMU enabled systems allow you to place Kickstart in 32-bit RAM. Results in a noticeable increase in overall system speed.
-
The question then is how to turn it on?

Simple, you run something that actually requires it.

Try MMULib.lha from Aminet (util/libs). It's a complete set of libraries and utilities for using your processor's MMU.

interesting, I have a Derringer Platinum 030 which allows you to copy the Kickstart into 32bit Fast RAM. Would this be a result of the MMU?

I have a Derringer 030(50) myself... I have not tried copying the kickstart to ram. But my MMU is inactive...
Maybe i should try it out one day..

Are you sure that you actually have a mmu? 030 mmu is external chip, not build in like in 040 and 060

That's 020 or 030EC.
