A MUST game! Excellent graphics, even in AGA and wonderful gameplay. I dare to say that the AGA-lowres is faster than the CV3D-lowres !!! (speaking for my system).

Definitely  B.O.D. (Buy Or Die!!!) :-D

With an 060/50, expect about 12-13 FPS on NTSC:LowRes, 8-10 on the CV3D equivalent (Z2 mode). The numbers may seem pretty low, but it's very playable. I recommend buying it immediately.

The game is very playable on my 060-50, AGA only. Infact, my
beefy-PC-owning-friend wanted to come over and play "that
GTA-clone" for a bit today. I'm not kidding. It's excellent fun
in single-player but comes into its own in multiplayer.

Too bad you cannot play over the 'net.

to the guys who said aga was faster than rtg,

yes and no to that :)

if you have a 3d card and use hw accelleration then the game is playable on my setup in 1280x1024x16 with rotation on etc.

(a1260*66*240/vodoo3 etc)

anyway its a must buy game indeed, it is really great!.

cheers

and no there is no cd32 version.

dont see how playable it would be on a 2x cdrom + 2mb chipmem :)

requirements is: 020 , 16mb fastram, 20mb hdd , cd rom /aga/gfx card.

recommend: 040 / 16mb+ / 45mb hdd , 6xcdrom , aga/gfx card.

best: 060/66/ppc/ warpd3d etc:)

I have it and I can only recommend it. Unless we had GTA3 it was THE GTA clone with the best graphic.

It was a bit expensive (english game) but it well worth it!

I knew it was a stupid question, but I wondered maybe there was a stripped down version of it
(I am in a desperate search for games wich support Akiko, and I found only Wing Commander and that game doesn't play that fast)

Resisting the temptation to ask "Why?", I think Microcosm supports Akiko if you can get hold of it.

It's the only amiga game I've bought new in
years, and was well worth it. I was literally
BLOWN away by the quality - what's been achieved
with AGA is amazing considering the antiquated
hardware.

As Lempkee pointed out, the only thing I'd really like to see would be AHI support, so MOS/OS4
people can fully enjoy this game...plus you get
"rotating" view and other nice effects with PPC
machines.

I'd like to see atari ST users top THIS game..:-P

FANTASTIC game !!! On my Amiga PPC-Voodoo3 is very fast. And if you can't play it plug it to your PC-UAE but I believe on Amiga is better  :-D

I hope Apex Designs makes an update with online race mode for payback!! (like skidmarks! It has already some missions with racing so it wont be difficult to implement this) That will definetely kick ass ;-)

OH MY GOD!

why have i not seen this game before!?!?

i loved the first 2 GTAs much better than GTA3 and vice city. Playing GTA3 multiplayer (ok not official patch but still works) isnt as much fun as playing the original GTA multiplayer.

I have to buy this game!!!

I hated all the old GTA games, yawn. Vice  City rules! It's fore bearer was brilliant too.

Dunno about Payback, but if it's anything like the top down GTAs then I probably won't like it.:quickdraw:

No Way! The original GTA kicks ass! The new one is cool too, but it dosent have the retro feel that GTA1 has (or is that my crappy GFX card in my PeeSee?)

Why was AHI support never released? That's really too bad. Not that
the PAULA sound effects are bad or anything (they are great), but it's
annoying to have to switch for users with sound cards. Ah well... :-)

I have it, but dont play it much. Its a bit slow on my 060 with Voodoo. I could never get the sound to play quite right as well. Its jumpy and all. The game is exelent looking though and was happy to spend my money on it.

I bought it when  it was released years ago and soundtracks are very good. I did not like the fonts and I did not feel the speed although I had a PPC+BVPPC cards in 640x480. I was expecting it to be faster in hardware renderer.
I dont play it anymore because I completed the missions of each city.

Suggestion for free:

if you have an audio card, with a free internal input socket, plug in the standard Amiga audio output.

You have no need to  switch anything. (at least, with my Repulse Gold card, it works)

I really want this game though sadly I don't have an amiga powerful enough to run it  :-(

Having said that, if it'll run on AmigaOne / OS4, I'll be a very happy geek (and 30quid lighter in the pocket too)

 :-)

Oh my lord!

I've heard the title, but didn't imagine what this game really IS!

I've downloaded the demo.
After finding out what's going on, I've spent half a night driving the busses at full speed against police cars! These explosions, people inside bus screaming just before every hit and at the curves, dynamic camera, doppler effect...

Holly cow. I have a problem...

Anyone has a spare SIMM cheap?...
I've played 68k, and WOS version won't start on my 32MB. :-(
Title: Re: Payback
Post by: lempkee on November 12, 2003, 01:49:33 PM
i have a sb128 on my mediator , i hook paula sound straight into the input and get sound from paula and ahi(soundcard) out atsame time.

i really dont see the point why zx56? was trying to say, if you have an ahi soundcard then you have an input , it doesnt excist any soundcard without this, hence you better try before u post here again :D

to thoose who have sound problems with payback , can you maybe explain it abit further? , i didnt really understand the problem , is the sound totally gone or? , is it on a real amiga or an emu? or a pegasos or what?

it use normal paula so basically it should work no matter what.
but if u meant no music, then you need to hook up the cdrom and the radio option inside the game.

good luck guys..

I played it through on my Amiga 1200 PPC toy computer.
On Pegasos it won't start. Waiting for AHI version.
(btw. Earth 2140 AHI 680x0 beta version is available and runs great on Pegasos. It's  much faster than on Amiga1200 PPC 266 MHz WarpUP).

Hi lempkee

Thanks for the info.

Well, who knows it more realistically than me from yesterday night...  :-( Even for WOS without w3d.

I have 060/50+603/200+BVision, no SCSI
And only single, doublesided 32MB.
Still one slot left, but only for single sided SIMM, I think. I'm also curious how can I mix them on my Blizzard.

There is only one thing that can cheer me up... I've left some demo buses on my harddisk for tonight. ;-)

 :flame: thanks again :destroy:

toy-machine? Are you dooms-master forgotten relative?  :-D

Where would i get Payback from? And how much? I am not sure if Formatt Computing still sells the game as  they seem to have stopped selling some of those great games. Oh yeah! My setup is more than capable of running Payback! (te-he!)

-edit-

I played the demo version, and i thought it was awesome! :-)

@lempkee:

So you are saying that I can simply take a cable that has one "headphones type plug" one one end, and "left/right RCA plugs" on the other, plug the "headphones type plug" into LINE IN on my sound card, and the other two should be plugged to Amiga audio out (red and white RCA)? I guess the Mediator mixer would control the mixing levels necessary for the Paula input.

How would this work while playing games through WHDLoad? Would the mixing level be appropriate or would the game totally forget about Mixer settings once away from OS3.9 environment? I'm still new to Amiga soundcards so I don't know... :-)

Any easier way of doing this internally, like Framiga suggested earler? I have an A4000, but I don't think there are Audio out pins on the motherboard somewhere for this (so that I could plug in a CD-Rom type cable to the "AUX-IN" on the Terratec 512i card), however I may be wrong...anyone? :-)

Just played it again today after about 6 months, it is really good fun :-) .

Runs quite well on my O40 AGA, I used to have a Voodoo card too but I do not remember it being much better.

I'm getting a PPC/Bvision combo, so hopefully it will be good on that.
