Does this company still exist??
Newstar/Rightiming Electronics Corporation of New Jersey, USA, has
indicated that it will be building an Amiga-compatible computer for the
Chinese, Taiwanese, and Hong Kong markets.
Dubbed the Amiga 5A00, the machine will be Amiga OS 3.1 based, with a
built-in CD-ROM drive. The processor will be a standard 68000 CPU.
Few other details are currently available. The machine will be marketed as
a home/internet computer, and the company is planning to establish its own
Internet service provider to handle Internet for the Chinese market of its

I wonder what the policy for electronics disposal in China is? It would be interesting to have someone get some of these supposed Amiga clones out of China as the Chinese people upgrade to other systems and start getting rid of their Amiga Clone machines. But then we don't really know how many of the clone Amigas were ever produced, or does anyone know?
If for no other reason than replacement parts in the future and novelty, it would be great to see them. I would like to know how many different Chinese Amiga models were ever really produced and sold.
-
One of my cousins lives in Continental China, I'll ask him for one (or two :D) of those units.
-
Do that please and would be nice to get some picture. There is www even in china and there must be pictures of them.
It just quite difficult surf chinesse sites :D

According this:

There is one amiga user in china :D so who you are and could you try to dig some information about thise amiga clones?
-
They are rather interesting, are these actually clones that have the rights to go into production or are they knock-offs? I can't imagine NEC ever ripping something off but if they did it shouldn't be of a poor quality knowing them.

One for me? Your too kind thanks! :insane:

We should make a list of companies that have licenses to Amiga OS 3.1 and older...
Cloanto
CU Amiga in 1993
PC Intern in 1999
Amiga Plus and PC Magazine in 2000
Epic Marketing
Runesoft GmbH
Village Tronic Marketing GmbH for "Amiga OS 3.1"
Hyperion Entertainment VOF
Escom AG
MS MacroSystem Computer GmbH --> MacroSystem Digital Video AG
Tianjin Family Multimedia Co.
Newstar Electronic Corporation
Rightiming Electronics Corporation
Regent Electronics Corp.
Lotus Pacific Inc.
Don't know about Amiga Inc anymore though.
I'm sure most of these licenses have moved around when companies got bought out or maybe some of these companies are no longer producing products, but still retain all their rights.
-
Amiga Inc owns AmigaOS 3.1, but can't profit from it. Interesting that the owner is the only company that can't profit from it....
-
Amiga inc doesn't own OS3.1
Licenced OS3.1 is usually restricted for certain use.
-
What , who pray tell does then ?
-
Hyperion Entertainment
Within the framework of the settlement agreement Hyperion is granted an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to AmigaOS 3.1 in order to use, develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x (and subsequent versions of AmigaOS including without limitation AmigaOS 5) in any form, on any medium and for any current or future hardware platform under the exclusive trademark “AmigaOS” (Amiga operating system) and using other associated trademarks (such as the “BoingBall” logo).

-
That doesnt say that hyperion own it
-
Amiga Inc owns the AmigaOS 3.1 software, but can't distribute it except to Cloanto and a few other places that already had licensing agreements. It can make no further licensing agreements nor can it distribute it.
Hyperion's license from Amiga Inc is exclusive going forward, anyone who had a license in the past in not affected by the ruling, but Amiga Inc cannot grant licenses in the future to anyone without Hyperion's consent.
So basically Lotus Pacific or more likely who ever bought the pieces of Lotus Pacific from bankruptcy, have a legal and unchallengeable right to distribute Amiga OS 3.1 worldwide (and exclusively in China) for whatever that's worth.

I want an Amiga based Karaoke machine!!!!

I am surprised that China has not cloned/copied the Amiga before now, they cloned/copied and ripped off many a hardware and software well before now.
It seems to me that China dont give a hoot, and are well above any kind of law.
Having said that............................
The Chinese made an amateur shortwave radio, specs are high quality and is very very good indeed, NOT copied. a Degen DE-1103 I have ony myself it cost less than £50.00 to buy it and get it shiped over here to the UK, if I was to buy the same spec that is made in the UK I would be expected to pay around £130 - £150
So they can copy/clone any thing and have it made of high quality they have shown this and know it themselvs. Question is Would YOU pay for a cloned/copied Amiga if the quality was high standard also knowing it would be far cheaper?

Does not mean that Hyperion owns or has exclusive rights to AmigaOS 3.1. Most people seem to stop reading before they get to the "in order to use, develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x" part.
