Title: Best video editing package for XP/Linux?
Post by: redrumloa on October 30, 2009, 09:03:45 PM
I am looking for a good video editing package for either Linux (preferably Ubuntu specific) or XP. Free would be ideal, but commercial would be considered if price is reasonable. I'd like to be able to take something like an MPG, cut out segments and add text to make a new MPG.

Simple stuff, just not something I've played with in a while. Looking for suggestions.

On WinXP, I use Sony Vegas.  It's a bit expensive, but the best on the market, IMO.

You could check out the free Wax 2.0: http://www.debugmode.com/wax/

It's simple and visually unspectacular, but I personally think it's great option being free and all.

Free there is the diabolical Windows Movie Maker XP, I started using http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp as its nice and straight forward though does require purchasing.

Hi Red.

MULTIQUENCE is an inexpensive editor. Its a try-it-and-buy-it program so you have nothing to lose.

I can personally vouch for Pinnacle Studio as an easy to learn, yet powerful editor with the ability to handle all sorts of different formats. The price was slightly high, but worth it.

You could always try Open Video editor for Linux:
http://www.openmovieeditor.org/

I've never used it but it looks pretty good.

You could also try Cinelerra on Linux
http://cinelerra.org/

Last version I tried was so unstable it was almost ususeable though! :(

You might try virtualdub, although that's an AVI editor.
