Title: IBM hard drive on CSPPC
Post by: kingkleks on November 08, 2003, 01:44:39 AM
Hi!
Does anybody have any experience with using IBM HD's on the CSPPC Wide SCSI chain? I got one and jumpered it to SE mode but when trying to use any of the partitioning programs they just hang. Everything is fine if I use a Seagate Barracuda there (it is just a Wide drive not LVD though). All the usual stuff (termination, cabling, etc) is ok.

This one: DDYS-T18350 and I also have a DPSS-318350 but did not have a chance to try it yet. I will try to see  they are ok on a PC.

Here is an obvious question - is the drive spinning up?  There is a jumper controlling whether this spins up and another controlling the startup delay.

Here is the link to the document I looked at for the DDYS-T18350 drive...

Ultrastar 36LZX quick installation quide (http://ssddom01.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/85256AB8006A31E587256A69006D5151/$file/ddys_ig.PDF)

Look at jumpers H, I and J on jumper block J6.

Regards,

Greg

There was one model of IBM disks that never worked on the CyberPPC. I know. I owned a company that sold those particualr disks, and they had problems with more than just the CyberStorm cards...

Cannot remember which model it was though.
It has to be some three years ago now...
