Title: Want list
Post by: swift240 on October 18, 2009, 03:35:21 PM
Ok all I know this has been done before, so I hope im not going through old ground here, but since the good news about Hyperion I thought it may be posible to make a proper real list of what we think the (dare I say) new Amiga will want.

Yes ok I know we done this befor but lets face it that was a dream really wasnt it.
But this way at least we have some sort of realistic hope here. Dont we?

1:- Bluetooth support
2:- USB
3:- updated OS
4:- Fast Ethernet
5:- Nvidia graphics.
6:- Switchable CPU system backwards compatible to Amiga OS1.3
7:- IDE/SATA
8:- Amiga sound, but in modern format
9:- VGA and 15Khz output
10:- Minimum 64mb Chipram (if needed)
11:- Minimum 512mb Fastram
12:- CPU well where do you start with that?
13:- A first class web browser.

Just a few ides of the top of my head, but you all get the idea, maybe Hyperion will take a look at the idea's we could possibly put forward to them.
Make and compile a real list of ideas here.
But lets get real here its no use what so ever making a new Amiga with old ideas.

Or am I just walking in dreamland here yet again?

Dreaming is good! Got to start somewhere. Now that it seems the OS legalities have ceased, it's high time serious effort and attention be placed on getting back to business. Speaking of ideals and dreaming: in this day and age where many people are sick of bloated OS's and planned obsolescence, there's no reason why a fully capable and modern AmigaOS couldn't be injected into the mainstream once again. Everything is cyclic and I for one feel that computing today in general, sucks. It's boring, buggy, inefficient, generic and corporate feeling. Here's to Hyperion finally being allowed to do something productive (without prejudice! lol) with what we all know to be is the most superior OS on the planet  :-)

BTW: all of your suggestions are great but the OS1.3 compatibility. Unless you got it reversed. 1.3 could be used for a simple set top box utility however.

Oh and to the powers that be: keep the prices realistic on this stuff, huh? The one continuing notion that's obsolete IMO is gouging and punishing your current and hopeful user base. Mass produce and sell hardware at break even margins (which you'll be able to do at a "loss" before too long with some fancy accounting) and make up for it in software. It's an age old business MO that I'm afraid, so many in the Amiga circles never fully grasped. Especially Commodore, which ironically did whatever they could to get their C64's into peoples homes for very little profit. Worked back then and can still work today.

1:- Bluetooth support

Only requiers a bluetooth stack, BT is typically available via USB.

2:- USB

Covered already, I would say

3:- updated OS

Or truly free OS3 :)

4:- Fast Ethernet

And ethernet for all models :)

5:- Nvidia graphics.

This one I really dont grasp.

6:- Switchable CPU system backwards compatible to Amiga OS1.3

The CPU is rarely the problem - chipset usually is.

7:- IDE/SATA

SATA controller would be nice, howeved Deneb already does this via USB, and ACard has SCSI/SATA adapters. Cheap SATA/ATA adapters can be bought everywhere.

8:- Amiga sound, but in modern format

What is "amiga sound"?

9:- VGA and 15Khz output

We really dont need 15KHz much, and VGA is soon gone. DVI/HDMI is much more needed.

10:- Minimum 64mb Chipram (if needed)

Best would be to eliminate the need of chipram.

11:- Minimum 512mb Fastram

:)

12:- CPU well where do you start with that?

68k CPU? FPGA! PowerPC?

13:- A first class web browser.

I think OWB already is a good start for that!

Nah! But I was pondering on whether you wish for OS4 or Classic here :)
