For some time I have watched the discussions on many sites, and stuck my foot in it occassionaly by misunderstanding all the issues and feelings around, but I believe that now is a good time to try and bring us all together and I would like to propose the Amiga25 Foundation. Please goto the link below, read and then comment.

This is work in progress, and a lot of documentation is needed before end of year, but a lot of behind the scenes progress is being made to hopefully benefit all.
All the best

edit: For those who do not know me I owned the companies that produced Checkmate A1500 (the original), Siamese System and PCI Amiga. I now run ClusterUK Developments which make and sell the iMica range of IcAros powered computers.

Great effort clusterUk. Sun Tzu taught us to turn any disadvantage into an advantage. Amiga is divided. Let's make this diversity a strength.

Good idea. Sign me up now!!
BTW: Unless we get Flash, we're doomed! (well, we're doomed anyway i suppose...)
-
but in essence every Amiga25 foundation member will pay £1, 1 Euro or $1 per month in one way or another to be a standard member
Sounds like it pays to be in the USA!
-
Very nice effort, thanx clusteruk.

Thanks for comments, not had any bad yet so I am concerned ;-)

Good luck with that

Well I don't want to discourage you too much, but this kind of discussion has come up many times in the past, and each time it has been shot down by one or more of the fractured Amiga groups for multiple reasons, so I would not get your hopes up too high, until you see some agreement and cooperation from the developers in control of each separate group. I was one of the naive people that put out a call for unification, or at least cooperation in the past, so I applaud your sentiment and efforts and hope that it is received better now than it has been in the past.
The divide between many of the key people on each side is (or was) very intense, and you know how difficult the ego's of many developers can be to deal with. Also, how do you plan to gain the trust and reassure the members that the money collected will not be misused?
I wish you good luck in your endeavor.

Under your name at the bottom of the main page you have "Amiga25 Developments Ltd" I did a search on companies house and there is no company of that name showing as being registered. So I'm out.

I could even stretch to 2 quid per month ;)

There are some differences this time, indeed. First of all, Amiga25 is not about unification, but about common features. Amiga25 role is not trying to unificate the whole Amiga community if it doesn't want to, nor to create any 'new everybody's OS', but only encouraging coders to write software that can be useful for ALL the 'amiga flavours' available today. Just think at something like NoWinEd or WookieChat, which are available for every Amigaish operating systems out there. Encouraging, in the plans, means money.

Nice, thanks steve.
Oftopic, it was nice meeting you at pieneta. Thanks for the demo, and the chat.

Great concept. For years I've thought of the Amiga as a charity - legal nonprofit status could help a lot. I'm particularly interested in your plans to get old software available for sale - something like Steam or the iPhone App store for the Amiga could do wonders for commercial distribution.
Be prepared for some backlash, but don't think anything of it - it comes with the territory (nonprofit, that is... but the Amiga, too, I suppose ;)).

Please do not be to hasty, I set the company up two days ago and it is going through companies house now. It can take a few days to appear.
And to be fair, I have not asked for anybodys money yet.

@all
Thanks for the support, I will have a lot more details on site to clarify things further soon, and before I start taking money.
-
I'll keep watching in that case.
Have you thuoght in what ways you plan to advertise the Amiga?

Hi Steve,
I like your approach, however the difficulties in implementing the same software for the different OSes (eg CGX vs P96, Reaaction vs MUI) may make it difficult for anyone to claim any bounties.
I hope you'll get some constructive feedback on this from software developers in terms of implementing an effective bounty system which does what you are aiming for.
One point of note - on the "flavours" page the "authors" field seems misleading. I assume that this is the "author" of the news article (although why Amikit should show up as the author of AOS4.1 news article, and yourself as the author of the Amikit article seems strange), however on first reading it seems that these are the "authors" of the software.
Perhaps a front page describing each OS would be better with details of the developers/devteams involved, followed by articles (which could then be ascribed to individual authors).
Also, much of the content here appears to have been directly copied from other websites. Aside from potential copyright issues (for which I would assume you have asked permission), I would think if you are putting up an authoritative page introducing each OS variant, then the OS developers/marketing teams would prefer to have some control over what is stated here. For example, whilst the OS4.x page seems (on first glance) comprehensive in terms of describing features, the MorphOS page is incomplete - stating that "You will find a selection of core components described below.", whilst not including any such description.
I'm not trying to be over-critical or nit-picking, just pointing out some ways to avoid pi55ing off influencial people before you've even tried to get them on board.
I salute your constructive approach, and wish you well. When things are a bit more defined I'll be happy to get on board.

Great idea, you have my support and encouragement (but unfortunately I have no money to contribute).
Maybe you would like our idea for Underground Arcade, a place where anyone can download all the latest legal Amiga games.
Does anyone else out there actively want to try and promote everything Amiga?

Yes. but what do you mean by 'Everything Amiga'?
-
You've got my support for this project, ClusterUK, as I think it's a fine initiative. Thanks for doing this. I'll try to support with some cash once everything is up and running.
-
Great idea.
I like the thought about trying to buy the rights to old software to make it legally available for use or updating.
-
I like the idea. Hope you get it started.
