Hey everyone, I just thought it was about time I posted some photos of my tightly packed Amiga 600, complete with A603, Real-Time Clock, Subway USB card, USB numeric keypad, USB mouse and USB control pad, 2MB ChipRAM, IDE-CF Adapter with Compact Flash HDD, Kickstart ROM Switcher with 1.3 (patched for IDE) and 3.1, and a PCMCIA Ethernet card. I have it dual-booting into either Workbench 3.1 or Workbench 1.3, both of which work fine with all the USB peripherals, I can surf the net, chat on IRC, MSN, play MUDs, download/transfer files, read email and news, play games, write, paint, draw, listen to music and use the calculator with my right hand.
All this yummy USB stuff wouldn't be possible without the excellent 68k USB stack Anaiis.

Hopefully some day I'd like to stick a lovely A608 in there, and maybe an Indivision ECS if it'll fit (ooh I want low-res 256 colour chunky mode in my A600). All in good time, of course.

Excellent! All in 2MB of Chip?
-
Yeah, all that stuff works in 2MB Chip. Not all at the SAME time (IRC, MSN, MUD, Email, Games, Music...) but you'd be surprised how capable it is. I am usually using a few things at once on it, no sweat :)
-
Nice, you could still get an A630 though:)
The only downside is that it misses AGA but for WHDLoad with older stuff it's a cute little machine.
-
If I could afford an A630 and one was up for grabs, I'd jump at the chance to get it, but alas I'm poor and A630s are rare in these parts.
I have an A1200 and a CD32 for AGA stuff :)
-
Great machine!
Sad that I got my A 600 almost useless :(
-
Wow! A very cool setup!
-
Really cute! ;)
-
Well done!
-
Great to see the result on a compact A600.
Good work Cammy!
ANAIIS is a good thing for the 68000, so I *MUST* improve it from now.
-
there was talk about chris hodges making poseidon stack open source some time ago ...
would it be possible to integrate poseidon's ethernet drivers for ANAIIS ? if we asked chris hodges nicely ?

Arch, sorry Cammy, we are polluting your nice thread...
As ANAIIS is Sirion API compatible, but internal drivers don't work (only one thread is running),
an application can use it to manage ethernet. But don't ask me, because I have no time for that, and no more working A2000 to test it. Sorry...
-
What a great setup! Awesome, very nice little machine.
Cheers

Makes me want to bring mine out of its box in the garage, no more room though, even as small as it is...
-
CRIPES! I got a RISC PC too! (and a BBC A3000) Nice to see Acorn users here. :D What spec is that machine?
As for the 600... I wish my 600 was this good, one of my favorite all time Amiga's IMO simply because of it cute size wins me over.
-
Acorn seemed to have a penchant for naming their computers after Amiga's.
Consider the A500, A3000 & A4000.
-
very nice! now all you need is NedoPC 8MB ram expansion :-)

Well Acorn's A4000 came out well before Amiga came out with their A4000. As for the A3000, well that would be pretty close but I would think again that Acorn would have nudged it as it was on sale back in '87 (I think).
-
Neat setup. How did you get into Amigas Cammy?

That`s a very good point :)

I figured it wouldn't hurt to update this old thread with some newer photos and information about my lovely A600 for anyone out there who is still interested in real Amiga computers. Although she is in need of a capacitor replacement and general once-over from an Amiga repairman, Workbench still boots up after a few minutes of power rerouting and shield stabilization. After that it reboots as quick as you would expect.
Thanks to my good friend tone007 my A600 is accelerated beyond all previous expectations. She now sports the bee's knees of expansion boards, the ACA630/30 with 64MB RAM from Individual Computers. I have replaced the old Compact Flash card with a brand new 4GB SanDisk Ultra II CF card, partitioned with two SFS partitions with Workbench 3.1 and several programs, games and utilities installed, and a 1GB HFS partition with MacOS 7.6.1, various programs and 16-colour-compatible games.
Now I can browse the web, including Amiga.org (through Karlos' awesome proxy and new 640-wide option) and play my favourite online multiplayer game, Dynamite, on my cute little A600, as well as playing DOOM and a few other FPSs and CPU-intensive games.
She is protected by a nice fitted dust cover given to me by my good friend fitzsteve, and is connected to my LCD TV via a RGB-S-Video adapter from AmigaManiac.com providing a flicker-free display in all Interlaced modes!
So, here are the pics!
First is an older photo from before I got the ACA630 but after I had put together a really killer 3.1 setup for low-end systems. The CF drive from this is now in my other A600 (whose motherboard was provided by tone007, thanks again!) where it sports the 2MB PCMCIA SRAM card as well for a total of 3MB System RAM. I'd love to get another A603 to bump it up to 4MB, and even one of those upcoming 2MB 020 accelerators.

Here is a newer photo of her running Photoshop 4.0.1 (the final version for 68k) under MacOS 7.6.1. It runs very well and is perfectly usable. I have adjusted it better since this photo so the display fits to the top and bottom of the screen.

And here is a screenshot from my A600's Workbench, browsing Amiga.org and playing a game of Dynamite. Unfortunately I'm only playing against bots these days because hardly anyone ever wants to log in anymore! How could you resist such a fun and customisable online multiplayer Amiga game?

More to come, as I don't really plan on sleeping for a few weeks while I play with my awesome new setup.
-
gotta be the nicest and most loved A600 on the planet :)
btw: how did you get such a nice looking iBrowse screen without an Indivision module in there? Almost looks 24-bit. Nevermind... was viewing this thread in my iPad before. lol Still, colors look great. Must be Karlos' handywork? :)

It's impresive! I tried with MacOS but it was only running right in Black&White. I don't know how you always do to play internet and lot of things so fast.
A video would be great.
-
Very nice Cammy! It's always good to see what you're up to. You inspired me to fire up my old A600.
-
Cammy very nice setup lots of hours of config there! :)
@ Tenacious
Would you want to sell one of your A600s? I'm trying to make an a600 octamed machine :)
-
Great stuff Cammy, good to see what can be done with the A600.
-
those miggies are in pristine condition :) Nice job
-
Awesome work and brilliant setups your got there Cammy (/respect)
Rebel's palette and themes are just superb and in general the miggy with an ACA630@30 is really responsive and fast @ 16 colors even in OS3.9. I love it!
Keep up the excellent work Cammy!

Really nice photos!

I have an A1200 and a CD32 for AGA stuff :)
I used to have A600 with M-Tec 630-42 Turboboard (68030/42MHz) back in 1999 for Internet and stuff. It was quite useful if you use Workbench in less than 32 colors. In 32 colors the serial port was getting slow and I was not able to use the full capacity of my very fast 56Kbps Atrie modem. I still have two working modems, but no phone line anymore.
The Internet was not that colorful back then, but I remember the machine was getting hot quite often and if you type aggressively on it, you can misplace the M-Tec and I had to open it, place again the card over the 68000 CPU and close it back in the hope it won't misplace something else (For example the two 3.0 ROMs). The cool factor was the Frankenstein monster was fitted into the small case and working.

Fantastic setup. Good to see a Classic alive and in use...!
"How could you resist such a fun and customisable online multiplayer Amiga game?" BioN. I've never tried Dynamite. Looks a little bit boulder dash / gauntlet / Bomberman.
Is it anything like EVE Online..? :)
