Hi again! This is my first post since my A600 arrived (this morning!!), and trust me, there will be a lot of questions coming up on here... but I'm glad to have such a helpful forum at hand!
Ok... out of the box, powered up... nice clean keyboard.. damn noisy hard drive! (used to the silent A500, sans hd) ... Workbench loads fine... apparent lack of ANYTHING interesting on the hard-disk... former owner was really really boring... Joystick bin-worthy. Load Rebels megademo 2 from floppy... works fine.
Next test... load Lemmings... GURU MEDITATION... (repeatedly) ... Load Bubble Bobble... GURU MEDITATION... not happy.
Speedball 2 worked, so did Gianna Sisters... but is this the wrath of Kickstart 2.1?? It's not the same kickstart as my 500 (1.3)... so how can I
a) make this thing play Lemmings and all other fun stuff
and b) make it play them from the hard-drive...
ok... there are a million more questions to come- but first priority: WHY WON'T IT LOAD LEMMINGS?
(more importantly... how do I MAKE it play lemmings...!)
Thank you in advance for any help. ;)

ok sweet... next question!
Just reading that there could possibly be an ADVANTAGE to 2.x roms- in the Atari ST thread someone said 2.x roms have built in cross-dos, and can read MS-DOS disks....
will this be at all useful with modern PCs? eg: can i use a floppy to transfer from my pc to the a600?
or are high-density disks not going to work...?
I will eventually try this myself- but am at work now so if I can save time getting an answer on here- I can do more fun stuff with my new a600!
thanks ;)

Somewhere in your colelction of Workbench disks you will find a PC0 device, that will allow you to read and write PC (720K) formated disks.
If you want to use High Density ones, you have to put tape over the HD hole in the side of the disk, and you can then use it as a Double density disk.

Um... the only workbench disks I have are the ones for WB1.3 (ONE floppy)
WB 2.1 is on the hdd... will this PC0 thing be in there by default as part of the OS? if not... a) where can i get it...
and b)
taping over the hole on a high density disk... will that make my PC floppy drive write the data differently? Do standard floppy drives adapt like that? or do they only take one kind of disk....?
Cheers, RW

Check storage/dosdrivers, should be there after a standard install.
Move the file to devs/dosdrivers to have it activated on every boot, or
double-click it to start it for one "session".

Look around the Devs dir, there should be a PC0 dos driver in there some where.
The Amiga Disk drive will treat all disks as Double density. But the PC drive will treat a High Density disk differently. So you have to put tape over the HD hole on the Floppy so that the PC thinks it is a double density disk, as the Amiga will read and write to it in this format.

Wicked. This is a ver exciting prospect... hope it works! I was thinking I'd have to stuff around with nullmodem cables etc between the PC and Amiga to move data...
so is it pretty straightforward to transfer adf files over to the a600? I know this topic has been raised a hundred times... are there tutorials on here somewhere?
Thanks,
RW

You can't physically fit an uncompressed ADF onto a 720K MS-DOS floppy, so you'll need to zip them, other than that it's easy going.

For the record an MS-DOS DD disk is 720k and HD 1440.

just a small note , Check WHDLOAD.dE , here is hdinstallers for maaaaany old amiga games ,
they degrade etc, so you can play anygame you like on a 060 cpu etc without serious problems.
if your games aint orginals , use REKICK 1.3 floppy disk (aminet?) ..
