Title: Mac G4
Post by: DyLucke on September 02, 2009, 10:37:24 PM
Hi there, i know this is a little "off topic" at least for now till the moment MorphOS port is released for this platform.

However i've got an offer for a 1,8 Ghz Mac Mini, full equiped and TFT Sony monitor for 250 euro.

Should i take it? Is it a fair price?

Cheers!

Depends, is it really a G4 at 1.8GHz?

I guess not, AFAIK there were no G4 macminis over 1,5ghz.

But as long as it has 1gb ram and it was manufactured on late 2005 it has to be one 1,5ghz... Rigth?

According the specs I've seen, late 2005 should be the 1.5 ghz model.  Either of the G4 models of the mini can be equipped with 1 meg so that's not conclusive.  Seriously, the difference in speed between 1.5 and the earlier 1.42 ghz model would be difficult to notice....

Not bad in any case, but i wonder if the price is a good deal for the unit + original keyboard + original mouse + sony 17" tft screen.

Seems to me a bit of a steep price for a somewhat old type of Mac.

That's a fair price for the package, but I don't think it's a PPC machine.

Yep yep, it's confirmed it's a G4 machine, what i can't confirm is the clock speed, but it was produced on late 2005 so it would probably be 1,5ghz. Is the only thing i must have confirmed at this moment.

If it's 1.5GHz, that's a steal. Snatch it up! :)

The 1.5 model should have 64 meg graphics ram, double that of the 1.42 model.

Maybe can be a overclocked 1,42 to 1,5ghz and still 32gfx memory (enough)

Are you sure it's a G4 and not an Intel?

If it's a G4, then it's pretty steeply overclocked IMHO.

BTW, Wikipedia has a pretty good table that compares the different Mac Mini models, starting from the first G4 one:

If it is a 1.5 GHz Mini, then the 250 for the whole lot is a bargain. Usual price is ~250 EUR fo the plain 1.5 GHz Mini. The 1.42 GHz versions are quite cheaper, but even if it was a 1.42 GHz version the 250 incl. kbd/mouse and tft are quite good (given the things are in good shape). Go for it - and don't forget to keep some extra cash for your MorphOS registration ;-) !

Then, if its a 1,5 ghz will have 64mb of gfx mem instead of the 32 that have the 1,42Ghz model.
If you don't want this please say something, I'm searching one too.

PD: I'm Doraemonppc form zdp

Some g4 1,5 ghz were equipped with 32 mb radeons. Also the 1,5 ghz g4 were 1.42 overclocked to that speed, it was called a "silent" upgrade from apple. If it's 250 for the whole lot is a bargain as someone has suggested. Go for it!. Also you can reach me on zdp forum also.
Cheers!

Like others have said it's a very good price with the monitor as well.  I paid around that for a G4 1.5Ghz on its own.

It is a good deal, did you buy it?  If not, spread the news to other members and I am sure someone will pay that amount to get it.

Okay, here are the news. The computer is not in my hands still, because the dude lived in Madrid, however i sent one friend of mine to go there and GRAB IT ASAP. So the G4 is safe at his place by now.

For what he told me, the computer is in a perfect conservation status, not a single scratch on it's surface and booting and running software really fast without problems.
Original Leopard installation disc, original Apple keyboard and one of these button-less mac mouses. All the cables, original package mint condition and a nice 19" Sony TFT screen in working order.

About the specs, the device is INDEED an 1,5 with 64mb video Ram, upgraded to 1gb RAM and having 80gb HDD. I even got the spare 512mb ram module from the guy.

Everything went smooth as silk.

It seems i made a great buy here.

Thanks to everybody for the support.
