Title: Quick 1200 accelerator question
Post by: hayashi on August 22, 2009, 08:00:48 PM
Hi,

If I got an 030 board, would it be upgradeable to an 040? Are there any advantages to having an 040 board over an 030 with 68881 or 68882?

Thanks, Matt

Not possible sadly. The advantage of the 040 is that it's faster than 030; also if the 030 has an FPU.

In favor for the 030 is that it (typically) consumes less power and generates less heat. Which chip is best for you depends on what you want to do with the machine.

The 030 is more compatible with Amiga software too.

Looks like you have an FPU, anyway. I believe the 030 is about 1/4 the speed of the 040. I use a 060, though there are some (minor) compatibility issues. I'm using these 2 pics to compare. (my 030 and 040 cards are currently awaiting installation)
