Title: A1200 sticky feet?
Post by: mikeymike on August 20, 2009, 11:41:28 PM
Two of the rubber feet have gone gooey while in storage in my parents' house.  It hasn't been in the loft for long, only over the summer really, and before that it was in a comfortable spot in the cupboard.  Any ideas why this might have happened?

Some rubber is just unlucky it seems.  I have a NeXT monitor that the large rubber covers on the front feet just turned to mush on, very messy, had to clean it all off. Another monitor, same type, has perfectly solid feet.

Had the same thing. I don't think it is the rubber itself because It happens to odd feet on odd computers. More than likely a reaction to something like a cleaning product, spill or UV light, from ages passed.  We have a hardware shop 'er called "Bunnings" that sells almost the exact same feet. (A tiny bit higher) so they shouldn't be too hard to replace.  But do all 4.

I had a satellite receiver do the same thing, 3 of the 4 legs turned into a tar like substance. I got some on my hands and it was really hard to remove.

Used to see it all the time with consumer electronics.

Most cases the tv / video etc etc. hadnt been moved in ages, we would come to collect it and after removing box from top of expensive CRT's would find the rubber feet had eaten into the tv cabinet.

If I remember a manufacturer (rather not say which 1), done a recall cause of this problem, about 7 years ago.

Is right though. Its a chemical reaction between some plastics and rubber.
