Wath is the best ftp-server program for amiga, and the best freeware ftp-server program for amiga?
-
rcftpd is the best, and earlier versions are now freeware. The other ftpds on Aminet such as ftp4all are free, but a total pain to set up.
-
Earlier versions of rcftpd might be freeware now because they have known vulnerabilites. I'd suggest reading changelogs, revision info, etc before using them.
-
I used to like to use LS-FTPD...
I think it was called that.
I am not sure if its freeware or not.
-
RC-FTPd is the best FTPd on the amiga :-)
however I wouldnt be holding out for any new versions anytime soon, the coder lost his source code for the latest release. Also its not freeware, it shareware but has no restrictions, if you register youll get version 3 for free, which will be restricted, whenever that may be. I registered it, but then I know the coder personally so... :-)

You might want to try SimpleFTP on Aminet.

SimpleFTP is a client... you use it to connect to an FTP server. I believe the guy is after an FTP server not a client :-). Also SimpleFTP is quite buggy... but still handy, I have to use it to upload things to one of my website as my other FTP clients wont work properly with it. As a client I recommend either ATM (AmiTradeCentre) or AmiFTP, note I said Ami not Am, AmFTP is utter crap :-)

I installed RC-FTPd on my 4000/OS3.9, and I use it on OS4.0 also. I think the setup GUI is excellent and easy to implement.
It has a couple of bugs, which Robin Cloutman (author) is unable to fix because he lost the sources.
1. IBrowse won't log on from another machine. Strangely enough, I have no trouble logging IBrowse onto other FTP servers, so it's an interaction between IBrowse and FTPd. Other browsers like Opera, IE, Konqueror and Mozilla have no trouble with FTPd.
2. There is another problem with early versions of Magellan's FTP client - somehow filenames are not terminated properly and "can't be found", usually because there is unwanted text on the end of the request line. An update of Magellan fixed that one.
All in all, I'd recommend FTPd.

Oh, they love me and my website. And that's minus at least a few hundred emails I can't be bothered to put up there.
Admittedly since I put that part of the website up (via FTP, just to keep this slightly on topic :-)), the number of rabid emails I get have gone down considerably.

It was certainly a good laugh reading through some of the responses

By earlier versions read the current latest - there is one known bug, and a couple of things I could have done differently to make broken clients behave better. The bug lets ppl see stuff they shouldn't, but doesn't allow anything more than that.
As other ppl have also said, it's still shareware, but ppl can use the current version fully for free - but future versions will be more expensive (free upgrades for registered ppl). As Ryu also said, I lost the source from versions 2.64 onwards - that was a *lot* of coding, and will teach me not to buy cheap cdr's any more . :-(
-
wu-ftpd has worked fine here for years now. It even contains the sources, so you can modify it for your needs too ;) I've made logging and statistical services on my version ;)
