I have multiple A4000's. I want to know how to connect them to my router via a rj45 connection.
I have network card for the amiga, I beleive it is a adrianne? however it has a bnc connector. how do i get from bnc to RJ45?
next step is after this, how do I connect to the internet and to my other computers on the network at that point?
thanks, alan

To go from coaxial (the BNC connector, 10BASE2) to twisted-pair (the RJ45 connector, 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T on Amigas), you'll need a media converter, and they can be almost as expensive as a new Zorro Ethernet card. You may want to compare the cost of media converters against the cost of two new X-Surf Ethernet cards from a vendor like AmigaKit, especially since it sounds like you only have one network interface card.
Once you have the proper equipment, your best options for TCP/IP connectivity are AmiTCP 3.0b2 (free) and Genesis (bundled with AmigaOS 3.9). There are many software options available for sharing data between Amigas and other systems, including standard file sharing protocols like NFS and SMB and commercial products like Amiga Explorer.

I wouldn't bother with any fancy media converter, you can buy a beat-up old hub with a BNC connector and RJ45 connectors off of eBay to get the old card on the network.
Just make sure you pick up a pair of 10Base2 splitters (Ts) and terminators along with the cable, some more eBay items. Bonus, you've just learned how to implement a very basic 10Base2 network (not that it'll come in handy ever, most likely.)
I put together the same setup for my 4000T with Hydra card for roughly $20, not counting the cable I impatiently bought at Radio Shack (another $10 or so.)
Of course, then you've only got one machine networked. You'd need additional cards for the others.

if I have the x-surf can i use it to connect other amigas using their BNC connector cards to eth bnc connector on the Xsurf card?

nop... the x-surf can only have one port active.
I agree with previous post... a media converter or a plain hub that has both BNC and rj-45 is easiest (and some cable/T's/terminator) are easy to get

PS: in fact... where are you located ? PM me... I have some cheap stuff left over I'm happy to part with

Just use ProNet ;)

As long as you don't use DHCP, yes. Genesis won't work with DHCP. So to get DHCP I have to use a demo of Miami. (Even though it suppossed to be in my copy of OS3.5!)

You can download the key to Miami legally, it's been available for years, although the Amiga Key Ring site seems to be down right now.

:o
Legally? For years! :bump:
And I thought the Kruse expressly forbid it.

AmiTCP/Genesis is mostly script and configuration file based, so if you have a DHCP client available, you can use one. There's one example on Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/dhcp_amitcp (http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/dhcp_amitcp).

Holger's on LinkedIn, so he's certainly accessible if anyone is serious about contacting him re: the possibility of registering Miami DX.
