Hello everyone!
I bought a used X-Surf 3cc (it has only one 3.5" IDE port) but it came with no software. I downloaded XSurfIDE v104.1 (http://www.jschoenfeld.com/support/support_e.htm) from Individual Computer's site and installed it in the Expansion Directory but it freezes the computer every time. I took it off and tried to execute it separately from the startup process and the same happened.
Then I read AmigaKit's description for this card (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=250) and it says that the IDE port can be activated by the IDE-fix Software package, so I downloaded IDEfix97.lha from Aminet and Installed it but still, nothing. The device to be used (AFAIK) should be xsurf_atapi.device.
BTW. The card shows fine in Early Startup.
Surely I'm doing something wrong, but I'm lost. Does anyone have a clue?
My computer is:
A4000D with a Cyberstorm 060/PPC
Picasso IV graphics card
Deneb USB card
9GB UW SCSI HD (connected to the Cyberstorm)
IDE CD (connected to the X-Surf) - the one I cannot use
AmigaOS 3.1
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Efrén

Does XSurfIDE have an icon ? Everything in the Expansion drawer needs an icon with vendor/device IDs in the tooltypes, otherwise it won't work.
Try to run XSurfIDE without any device connected to the X-Surf IDE.
Try to run XSurfIDE with a HDD connected to the X-Surf.
If the HDD works then then CD drive is incompatible. Note that the IDE port on the X-Surf is not fully featured. It only works with a limited range of devices.

Hello Thomas!!
It has an icon but I haven't checked its tooltypes, I wasn't aware of that. I'll check it tonight after work. Also I'll check different combinations as you suggested.
Thanks for your help!

Hello!
I checked the tooltypes and yes, it has them and they seem to be correct (same vendor/device id as in showconfig).
I disconnected the IDE cable and XSurfIDE didn't hang, so I was able to check the available devices and there it was: xsurf_atapi.device! yeeaahh :)
Then I connected an old Quantum IDE HD. XSurf didn't hang but HD Toolbox didn't find it. It searched scsi.device and 2nd.scsi.device... No devices found
Then... I connected a new Western Digital IDE HD. This time the computer hanged but not immediately after executing XSurfIDE, but while HDToolbox was scanning 2nd.scsi.device
I guess I'm out of luck and I don't have compatible devices :(
Thanks again!!

I think you have to tell HDToolbox to scan xsurf_atapi.device via a tooltype.
