I have just listed three A500s with dead floppy drive and two with imperfect boxes.
HERE (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=redrumloa&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50) while they last.

Red, I don't suppose you know what rev Mobo and Rom they have, do you?
-
I don't check mobo revisions, but the few I have opened up have been rev5 so chances are they are all that rev.
KS roms are a crap shot between KS1.2 and KS1.3. I'd say about 60% are KS1.2 and 40% are KS1.3.
Sorry if that doesnt help for these specifically
:-?
-
Oh, it more than does. That's the rom version I want (If I get one, it's strictly for 'legacy' games) Don't know about the rev 5 mobo, though. My 500 had one and it gave me nothing but problems. :-( It had a 2.04 rom, but it wouldn't use a 1.3 or a 3.1. I went and bought a 3.1 rom and it never worked. Thank god I ended up getting my first A2000 (given to me by a mate of mine who still has his 'Van Halen' 500. He painted that poor 500 to look EXACTLY like Eddie's guitar. Poor thing.)
-
Methuselas,
The only problems with Rev5 is that you need to solder a wire to your kickstart chip if it's something better than 1.x, and if you want to do the 1M chip mod, you need to cut a trace on the motherboard as one of the jumpers isn't there yet in this rev..
I never had any trouble with my rev5 and I see that your only troubles were that you probably didn't have the wire on the kickstart chip. :-)
-
Actually, I had the trace cut and the wire to the rom, but I also had an AdRam card in it too. I couldn't get ANY kind of accelerator working with it.
That sucked, 'cos I was given an A2000 with a rev6 mobo that didn't like any accelerator either. I spent 200$ on an Apollo 030/50 back in 1997 and NEVER got it to work. Eventually, it was destroyed, along with my A3000 and a bunch of other Amiga items by my ex lady. Well, I wouldn't call her a lady. A friend with benefits was more like it. Then again, she wasn't really even a friend.
:-( Sigh....I really miss my A3000.

It is from 1994. The box says nothing about any edition or revision.
-
That Magic deck did okay didn't it Red?
Its amazing what people will pay for Magic cards - I reckon my collection is worth well over a grand!
-
Ya know, he's got these nice new A500's, and I have probably 20+ 500 motherboards here. . . I also have a crapload of ROMS (1.2 1.3 2.04 2.05 3.0). I'm sure between the two of us you could end up with a really nice 500. :-D
Man I wish I had a trained monkey to test all this stuff for me.
-
If only I was in N America Jag, I'd take some bits off your hands...
-
Damn, I thought you were going to offer to be my trained monkey for a second there.
-

That's no excuse! I have shipped to Australia, Malasyia, Czech republic, Poland, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, UK, Taiwan and many others in the last month alone:-D
-
But is it not expensive?
-
Damn, I thought you were going to offer to be my trained monkey for a second there.
:roflmao:
........ :-D
-
@Cyberus:
Maybe you get free shipping on certain quantity...ask! :-) Your worst enemy IMO is the customs. At least here in Canada it is.
-

Depends on what you consider expensive, and I give options. I just quoted shipping to Denmark a few minutes ago, here is what I quoted.
A500 to denmark via USPS:
Global Express Mail (EMS) 3 - 5 Days $88.00
Airmail Parcel Post 4 - 10 Days $71.00
Economy (Surface) Parcel Post 4 - 6 Weeks $40.00
-
I don't suppose you still have any A500s with imperfect boxes left then do you? :-)
-

The ones I listed on eBay for $70 are gone. I just checked and I have one more in the office ATM with a 'slightly' imperfect box I suppose I could sell for $70:-)
-
That's very kind of you!
Hmm - let me see, $70 + $40 (cheapskate shipping) = $110 = approx £70
I think I might have to start making some more room in my house!
Ah, have you had anyone have them shipped using the slow overland mail method? Have you had any feedback from them as to how they arrive? I worked in a sorting office last Christmas, and I see how they treat boxes with 'Fragile' written on them!
-

Yeah they've gotten there..sloooooww.. Box in o-k condition. I'd personally recommend Air, but surface will get there eventually.
-
Those Amiga500 floppy drives are crap, Two of my three Amiga500's has a dead floppy drive and I am very careful with my last working one
-
@speelgoedmannetje
err, thanks...I suppose...
speelgoed is 'toy' in English, I know
but what does mannet mean?
-
It translates to "little man" or "little boy" either works.
The root word means man or male. The je at the end of a dutch word implies it is tiny or small.
So translated literally it would loosely mean "ToyBoy". So I think the author is having a bit of fun with the word "BoyToy" :)
-
Your worst enemy IMO is the customs. At least here in Canada it is.
They only hold things up if they're over about $20 Canadian. The REAL enemy are the pirates UPS (at least on transborder shipments)
Canada Customs charges(or maybe it's the Post Office, I'm not sure :-? ) a flat $5 fee for brokerage, UPS will hold you upside down and shake all your spare change out of your pockets, kick you in the nads, and bill you for the remaining extortionate brokerage charges sometimes totalling in excess of $40. Boycott anyone who tries to ship UPS across the border! :-x
-
I NEVER use UPS. They still owe me 300$ for a 2000 they damaged during shipping, so I returned to them. They 'evaluated' it, only to return it 3 months later worse than how I sent it. I couldn't believe it. F*ckers! :-x
-
@ EpyxWork
I knew that -je was the dimunitive
I thought 'man' was man in Dutch(?)
Why 'mannet'?
I'm no expert - I'd be interested to know!
-
Cos mantje or manje just looks and sounds silly :-).
-
A little slower than usual this week. Three out of five are sold. There are still two units available with bad flopy drives. I have had people put feelers on them in the last 24 hours so they could go at any time.. :-?
-Edit-
And then there was one... going going..:-D
-
@ Odin
So the difference between man and mannet is...nothing?
I have been teaching myself some Dutch, and I would like to know! Thanks
-

mannetje means man (but belittled)

I am referring to a song of my favorite dutch standup comedian who does not take himself all too serious.

"mannet" means doesn't mean anything in Dutch
it is making the word to be able to be belittled.
-
@aardvark:
You are so right about UPS. I would only go by them if I am receiving something that I REALLY, REALLY want and the sender does not want to ship by other method, but by choice...I would always avoid them.
I think that the catch is that UPS charges GST and PST (Canadian taxes), PLUS customs charges, if what you are receiving was a sale from abroad!!! :-o :-x :madashell: :boohoo: :pissed:
:flame:UPS:destroy:

@Cyberus
Correct and as Speelgoedmannetje already mentioned it allows the word to be made small.
The extra letters just allow the suffix to be added to make grammatical sense is all.
Just like in some english words you have to change the root word somewhat when adding a suffix.

Ah, I understand now! Thanks!
