I have a Microbotics Starboard 2 and dl'ed the only disk I found online - a mem test. It also has a SCSI interface. Do I need drivers for this or will it work under WB 1.3 without?
Any idea where to get drivers for this thing? Thanks.

It looks like you might be able to rule out autoboot with KS1.3 as the SCSI interface doesn't appear to have a ROM.
Someone must have the drivers for it.

Not that I've been able to find... :-(

You have the Microbotics Stardrive module? I also have this module but no disk...

That's not encouraging. Have you looked (hard)?

______
Have you checked the StarDrive driver on http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/stardrive?
StarDrive is the optional SCSI module of StarBoard 2 in notes. There is a manual for
the StarDrive there also.

Wow. Where on that page do you see a link to a Stardrive manual or software? Thanks.

He doesn't!

Pardon the interjection, but yeah, looks like there is just the manual and software (simple mem test?) for the Starboard, not the SCSI module.
Since the software seems pretty elusive, I bet that thing autoconfigs?!? Have you tried renaming the device driver from scsi.device to something more logical for that unit? For example: stardrivescsi.device, or something similar? Have you tried a program that searches for device names yet? ScsiInquire might do the trick...
(I just caught the Starboard II thread. Looks like there *might* be a driver disk yet for the SCSI module?) Good luck! Wish
I had some sort of internal HD solution for my A1000 :-(

These are pretty damn awesome, I put one in my A500: http://www.students.tut.fi/~leinone3/ide/ide68k.html
It's nice to be free of the sidecars.

Thanks for the tease ;-) I saw that, but they're sold out, are they not? Usually when it
comes to stuff like this, they're made in limited quantities, sell out fast and the designer
claims they'll make more someday but never do :-(
I don't see a way to order or get a hold of the designer on either page...

I just got one from an eBay listing by the maker a couple (few?) weeks ago, maybe those were the last of them, no idea. Though the rumored one with 8MB of RAM that's supposed to be coming out sounds great, I would've held out if my internal accelerator wasn't upgradeable to 8MB itself.
edit: yeah, looks like none currently listed, but this is the guy in case he lists more: http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/mklfi

I found in a thread somewhere that the device is named "stardrive.device". Say I do rename scsi.device to that...what then? I'm not even sure the specs of the MicroNet ext SCSI drive I have for it -- 1GB maybe. How do I get it mounted, formatted?
The device uses the AMD (NCR orig) 5380...

...used in the Trump Card, Phoneix board, etc. FWIW.

Somrtimes the use of "fixdisk" brings up deleted files.

If you're sure the device name is stardrive.device, yes - rename scsi.device in whatever
program your using to mount and you should be able to access, initialise, partition and
format the drive then.

Ok. I got the StarDrive install disk!
Now...the disk I want to install is an external Maxtor MXT-1240S -- it's got 15 heads, and specs show 2389 cylinders.
http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/maxtor/MXT-1240S-1240MB-3-5-HH-SCSI2-SE.html
So...the format software wants to know:
Low Cylinder (I say 1)
High Cylinder (I tried 2388 - and many lower)
Surfaces (I say 15)
Blocks Per Track (I say 17 based on some other example)
...it never works. Other ideas? It's a 1.25GB drive. Terminated.
Help!

Hi,
Go to Radio Shack, buy some of that double backed sticky tape, apply it to your hard drive and then stick it on top of your Amiga 1000, now your scsi drive is mounted on your Amiga 1000

Does the install put an icon in the expansion drawer of Workbench 1.3? I remember
the gvpscsi needing to do that.
Also, you may have issues with the grounding of your side expansion port to the mobo
AND the daughterboard or improper +5v going to it. There are mods and text out there
explaining what many A1000's need in order for the side expansion bus to work.
Some entail soldering wires between a few PAL chips on the daughterboard...

I bet the drive is just too big. That scsi drive(er) is too old. Try a smaller one.

I agree. Go smaller. I had an IBM 540Mb hard drive hooked to my ex-Microbotics SCSI module. That work OK (for 1.3 OS).

Ya, even 100MB is way more than I need on this A1000.
Oddly, when I scanned eBay, all the 50MB, 100MB, 250MB etc. old SCSI drives are like $80!! WTF?! I just bought a 320GB drive for my SAMiga for $69, new!!

They heard you were going to be in the market for one.

The last time I sold old Amiga SCSI hard drives on eBay, I was shocked at what they brought! I started three ( one 50Mb one 100Mb and one 120Mb) out at $5.00 - and got just over $200.00! I got $25.00 for a 540 Mb SCSI drive - go figure...
