Title: Best amiga game on XBLA
Post by: skilgannon on July 30, 2009, 02:39:54 PM
Just for fun - what is your favourite XBox Live Arcade version of these classic Amiga games?

1. Sensible Soccer
2. Speedball 2
3. Monkey Island
4. Worms

For me it's Sensi, but I'm really enjoying playing the new Monkey Island with my daughter, who, being 8 is just being introduced properly to her dad's geeky gaming past :)

I like Sensi the most out of that list :)

Worms is OK but not as good as Worms DC! Ive downloaded Worms 2:Armageddon but not tried it yet.

Im currently playing Rocket Riot which is lots of fun, I also like AstroPop, Bankshot Billiards, JointStrike 1942 and Hexic (1 & 2). Theres loads of good games on there :) Around half of my games are XBLA games.

What Id really like to see is Minskies Furballs on there, I used to play that all the time back in the day :P

Speedball 2 ofcourse. There's simply no game that's more hardcore than this one. Finished every level on the amiga (it's easy when you know how) without cheating.

Well, I don't know what exbox live arcade is but I'm pretty sure that the xbox is somehow affiliated with microsloth which means it's off limits to an Amigan.

Hmmmm - very close minded and controversial statement IMHO, which slightly offends me.  Xbox live is indeed Microsoft but where as I love to death my Amiga and therefore am proud of my Amigan status and still enjoy all that is Amiga; I also look forward, and in doing so would not be so limited or insular as to think anything was off limits to me; but each to their own.  For instance I love the sound of Vinyl (and i still own a sweet oil stabilised system x turntable) yet I also own a reference CD player, and so on.  The love of one technology does not, and should not prohibit nor restrict the enjoyment of another.  It's technology for Pete's sake - not religion!

Don't use XBLA and you can't beat playing the games on original hardware so pancakes!
Title: Re: Best amiga game on XBLA
Post by: skilgannon on July 30, 2009, 11:52:14 PM
Agreed Zabeedee, it's always best to play on the original hardware but this post is supposed to be a fun way of finding out who likes what of the re-imagined Amiga titles on the new technology, not to detract in any way from the original games.

There should be a rule that says there must be a pancakes option in all polls

I'd have to say Monkey Island!!!

On your controller hit the BACK button, and it degrades the graphics to 16 bit quality AND gives you an achievement!

Played Monkey Island on the Amiga then on the PC then on Xbox...my god this game will follow me trough the ages! yay!!!

Can't wait for Virtual-Reality-Monkey-Island-super-4d  in 20 years where I will be playing the role of Guybrush Threepwood myself :)

Oh yeah well under the special groups listing there is a Church of 3DO so maybe it is a religion, and you really need to lighten up as I was just trying to make a funny. Careful not to anger the Xbla as the consequences could be dire.

JC, you may have been trying to make a funny but nowhere in your statement did you apply any affectation to achieve that.  A simple smiley would have done it.  Obviously we have had a misunderstanding, which is easy done given that the good old written word is often misinterpreted and the intention often lost in the sea of pixels :)  Bygones eh?

Smilies are a Microsoft invention, Amiga users have no business using them!

Yeah, I'm also pretty sure that playing exbox means you are somehow helping M$ and you are spending time not playing Amiga.  That's just sick and wrong.

Gaming ended with the Amiga. Period. Full stop.

There is something honestly wrong with you people.   Why stop yourself having enjoyment because of some misguided  ideas.  Talk about cutting off you nose to spite your face.

Well said mate. I dont see why people wont buy a certain piece of software or hardware because its made by a certain company?? I buy stuff on merit and its relevance on what I want it to do for me, nothing more. The 360 is a great gaming console and XBL is the benchmark for console online gaming, the fact that its made by Microsoft (thats how its spelt by the way;) ) is irrelevant.

And the English Language ended with you....  A full stop is the same as a period.

I don't spend all day worshiping at the church of Amiga as you obviously do but to call enjoyment of anything other than Amiga "sick" only shows how insular and blinkered you are.

As I said in a previous post; I love my Amiga and everything about it but not at the exclusion of everything else.

This little poll and post is supposed to be fun - not something to get on your provincial soap box about.

Oh, look at the time, you better make sure you've turned your amiga on, stroked all the keys from right to left, pointed yourself north, spun three times and said the prayer to Jay Miner before the clock strikes the hour...

I can't stream Netflix or play Rockstar on my Amiga!  (which is really all the 360 gets used for.)

Of course gaming continues beyond amiga but i dont need a swos or speedball 2 controled with the analog pad of 360 both games loss more than 50% of plyability.

No one is forced to speak english.

Then you try Super Stardust HD on the playstation network or wait to Dead Nation (well this game is not a classic amiga game but the developers are housemarque) on the playstation network too.

My vote in the pool are swos and speedball but not with pad.

You know, this makes me want to get with some coder and work on a sidescroller for the classic where the main protagonist uses flying pancakes as a weapon. He could even have power ups, such as waffles, blueberry pancakes, etc.

PANCAKEMAN!

He has to look like the Chef from Sesame Street, though. XD If you put Wayne in a chef outfit, Wayne would look just like him. I think it's the stache! =D

That statement I made back then was directed at "Terse" and was only meant in the context of a rebuttal to his nonsense.

I totally agree with you though Kickstart - although these games are on XBLA etc; playability is well below par because of the lack of a digital joystick.  I was actually thinking of gettingon of those digital fighting sticks (designed for Street Fighter) etc - just to play speedball and sensi properly but then, I decided that I would just use my Comp Pro on my actual Amiga if I wanted the full on playability lol
