Title: Duke Nukem Shareware
Post by: Methuselas on October 30, 2003, 05:33:56 AM
Hey, if anyone's interested, here's a link for Duke Nukem. It's a shareware version that I modified so it would run using Dante's Duke3D port. The exe is included and it works.

Duke3DShare (http://users3.ev1.net/~martinjackson/duke3d/duke3dshare.lha)

Here's the readme:

Duke3DShare.readme (http://users3.ev1.net/~martinjackson/duke3d/duke3dshare.readme)

Enjoy! :-D

[EDIT] Okay....I don't know why the links don't work, but they're there....

Yah! I was getting around 60fps on my Amithlon box. I love that game, but I know how hard it is to find now, so I thought I'd give back to the Amiga community. :-D

I fixed your links. Can't use HTML in posts. Linking in URLs is done :
 My Link
with no spaces.( had to put spaces around the =, in order to have it show)

Kudos and thanks. I'll have to try this out after I get some ZZzzzs.

Hi,

@Gav

Right... quickest way to do this is:

1. Press right amiga and e at the same time to bring up the execute command box.

2. in it type "ed s:user-startup". Your user-startup will load up in ed.

3. At the end of the user-startup on a new line add: "assign Duke3D: misc:duke3dshare/"

4. once thats done save your user-startup. quickest way to do this is press the esc key then press x followed by return. That will save and exit ed.. very handy. If not you can do it under the right mouse button menu.

5. thats it... to activate the assign a reboot will be needed.

You can however do a temp assign by typing in the assign line above directly into the execute command box.

did they only release the source code of the shareware version of the game?
surely thats the same version as the full one, only cut down.

Anyone know what engine they used for Max Payne?
I saw some info on a Prey Engine, but looked pretty old. Quake1 standard.

@Mantisspider

the source code is for Duke Atomic, which is version 1.5. The shareware version is 1.3b, but I hacked the con files so they were compatible with 1.5.

The way I see it, it's VERY hard to find Duke anymore, so I released the shareware version after I tested it and it worked.

If you can find it, it's in the bargain bins, so I suggest you get it as soon as you can.

Dante told me that he's planning on adding midi support, so I'll be adding updates to Aminet when he releases them.

As for the TC's, I haven't tested them, but I will on my Miggy. If they work, I'll let ya know.

@Gav

Put the screen at the lowest level and set the resolutions to low. That's about the best you can do currently. I don't have a 'real' Amiga. I'm running it on a 1.3 Amithlon box.  8-)

@Ryu

Yeah, I hear that it gets a whopping 8FPS or so. Dante said he's going to try and fix that, but don't expect much, 'cos he's got other (paying) work, but as I told Gav, if you set the resolution to low and lower the screen size, it might help.

Oh yes! I will get this soon. Wasn't Duke Nukem given away as freeware?!

thanks for the archive 6mb is a lot easier to transfer on floppies than the full game :-) but how about removing the pc exe files?

got it to run pretty well after a bit of tweaking, it doesnt like PAL modes for some reason, 20fps on my 060 aga not bad at all :-)

@ CU

As far as I know, only the source code was released.

@AxE

I have the full version. That being said, I didn't particularly care if it had them or not. I just checked it to make sure that it worked and since it did, I posted it.
 :-D

@Methuselas
I also used your link and unpacked everything on my machine. Great fun, thanks a lot from me.

@CU_AMiGA
Used your link for WOS version. Impressive FPS difference. But unluckilly no sound. And sound in Duke increases playability a lot...
I wonder - they say the've just compiled the same source for WOS. So if there was sound support in 68k, why it's missing in WOS?  :-?

Anyway Thanks to both of you.  :-)

My pleasure! I agree, no sound on Duke Nukem is like Lager, without the crisps or football! :-)

@Methuselas

As you asked for bug reports...
It's not a bug, but I was thinking:
Couldn't you compile a version without 64mul/div? Would be more native for '60, than this patchers, and as we're talking about exec only shouldn't take much more place.

Just a thought

Hi,

Any idea where this can be downloaded from, the old link does not work :-( .

Thanks

@ Pir

I didn't compile the exe. Dante did. He hasn't updated it in forever, so I'm not sure if it's a dead project. He told me that he did an '040 version, 'cos it's more compatible. Whish I could help more. :-?

Sorry Mate, I couldn't afford my server space anymore, so I had to drop it. Unemployment will do that to you and I had to cut any unnecessary spending, so I could eat. Survival, you know.

If you send me a PM with your email, I can shoot it to you that way. Otherwise, unless someone offer's to host a whopping 6 MB file, no one else is gonna get it.  :-(

Ditto :-)

I have an early non-atomic full version, the 1st episode is the only one I really liked (3rd is ok), so I guess I'm in there :-) Shame the poor old '040 isn't up to it yet ...
