Hi folks!
I hope you can help me out on this one:
A while ago, a friend of mine came over with a ton of his old amiga diskettes with games and demos etc. He asked me if we could sit down and go trough them, as he would like to see what was on them because his old A500 had died a few years ago.
I fired up my trusty A1200 and a copy of relokicker, and we started. After a while, a diskette gave an ugly virus sign, I don´t remember exactly what virus it was, but i think it was the saddam virus. After that, my floppy drive is behaving strange. I put in my copy of relokicker, and it suddenly gave me errors and won´t work properly. When in workbench, i tried to format this diskette, but I can´t, getting one errormessage after another.
And when i try to make a floppy of an adf-file using easyadf, it starts to spin, but after 5 seconds or so it just stops and closes??
Is it possible that my floppy-drive is dead, or is this just this messy virus fooling me?
I have a spare floppy-drive from my old A500, can i try this to see if it works, or are there hardware limitations between those floppy-drives?
Sorry for this long question and my bad english, but i really like to get this issue fixed, as i have a Blizzard 1230 IV on my way in the mail, and i´m really excited to check it out..!
Thanks in advance,
Kvist

Have you try to power off your Amiga 1200 and try it again to format a disk?
You could try to clean your diskdrive.
If this doesn't work than you have to replace the diskdrive.
The Saddam virus will only effect disks when using kickstart 1.2 or 1.3.
In the future, you try some disks from your friend, use VirusZ or Viruschecker to check on viruses first.

"The Saddam virus will only effect disks when using kickstart 1.2 or 1.3."
Yes, and it spreads like a bushfire, damaging L: Disk-Validator on floppies
inserted after the first infected floppy...

Hi again, thanks for replies!
Yes, i have turned my machine on and off several times, stil no go. Guess my diskdrive is in heaven then.. But do anybody know if i can use my diskdrive from an A500 just to check if this is the problem? I don´t wanna spend cash on a brand new one if this isn´t the problem..!

Head cleaning diskette is the first thing to try, those old diskettes can get pretty scummy, though it's usually worse on 5.25s.
