My A2000 battery leaked a bit. Not too much. I've seen tons worse before. So I wiped up the white crystals with a Q-tip.
I never removed a battery before. I read on the net some guy wrote:
" I strongly advise removing the battery by breaking it off. Bend it back and forth lengthwise gently until the battery breaks away from the PCB."
Is that the agreed upon procedure?

Yanking out is barbaric, but it works. Really recommended way to do this is to gently pry the battery up and out of the PCB using a needled nose pliers and soldering iron. 15-30watts iron that is - NOT a gun. This way, you can re-install a newer battery or better yet, one of DJBases's lithium/diode hack more easily, cleaner and professionally.

I have document a number of ways on my blog. The quickest, easiest way is to slide a flat head screwdriver (with a napkin or paper towel wrapped around the head, to avoid scratching the motherboard) and just "pop" it off.
The best way is to remove the motherboard form the case (in an A2000, remove the RF Shielding also) and "de-solder" from the back using the solder braid (if that makes sense -See Pic). The battery will just fall out then. You will (or should) do it anyways after the battery is out, in order to put a new battery in.

If I do it myself is it safe to use a paper towel?
Or do I have to wear gloves?
Due to my disability I want to avoid wearing gloves if possible. But no way in hell am I touching that thing with my bare hands.
If I sent my miggy to you, how much would you charge to remove my battery "properly"?

I think it would cost more than its worth to ship it back and forth from Canada, but IF I were to do it, I would do it properly and put on one of DJ Base's battery Hacks. If you REALLY, REALLY want me to do it,PM me and we can work something out, provided the Motherboard screws aren't stripped.
If you touch the exploded battery, it won't hurt your skin, just wash you hands after with soap and water. I use the paper towel to prevent scratching or gouging on the board. I use gloves only when I am cleaning a filthy keyboard or such, because you never konw what was spilled on it.

Shipping to Canada is way to troublesome... It would hafta be something really valuable like an A3000 or A4000.
I was actually asking Save2600. For some reason I was thinking that he fixes Amigas for a living. Maybe I was mixing him up with someone else?

Can you not get a suitably gloved friend to remove the battery under your guidance?

The person who made that statement needs his head bent back and forth till it breaks away from his body...
The best way for a newb to do this is the same way an electronics minded person should do it, pull the mobo out of the case, flip it over and desolder the battery contacts. Especially if you are going to put a new battery back in.

Agreed, this is by far the best way.

The thing is... this is just an A2000 1 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast, Trumpcard Professional SCSI controller, 2 floppy drives. It is a rev 4.5 (Is that bad?). Its only purpose in life is to be an oldsk00l gamez machine. It will never be used to do anything "serious".
I can't think of any reason why it needs to know the date. Maybe I am forgetting something? Is there a reason why it would help for it to know the date?
I will be opening my A3000 next week. (I am afraid... very afraid...)
I do want my clock working on my A3000. I will be looking for someone to send it off to.
Once I get my A2000 battery out, I am supposed to rub pure vinegar all around the battery area to neutralize any and all acid, correct?
Is there only one kind of vinegar? Is there any "wrong" kind of vinegar that will destroy my motherboard?

Agreed, this is by far the best way.
Absolutely, remove the board and do it the correct way. On the A2000, R803 can be replaced with a germanium diode (stripe to the left, away from the battery area), solder the CR2032 socket directly to the board, and away you go.

Knowing the time and date is such a basic, elemental thing that I can't imagine using a machine that doesn't know what time it is :)

..do a search on this site (or was it on EAB?)..as some kind Amigan did a great 'how to' a while back if I remember correctly
