Can a European CD32 be used in USA?
If I plug it into a standard 110Volt outlet won't it blow up?
-
You cannot simply plug a euro power cable into our outlets here. Physically impossible. Plus, it wouldn't matter. They step down 220v - we only step down 110v. Real problem would be plugging an American power supply into a European outlet. Get a North American power supply for the CD32 and a compatible monitor/TV to play with the PAL chipset. Our standard is NTSC. If you purchase a PAL CD32, you can try to force it into NTSC by plugging an Amiga mouse in and holding down both buttons upon startup and selecting the screen mode.
Using it with a PAL compatible Amiga monitor or TV would be your best bet though. Many of the games in circulation are going to be PAL anyway...

doubt it would blow up. Though the US outlet would be putting out half the voltage of a European outlet and the plug would be different. You will need an adapter.

An adapter to step up 110v to work with a 220v power supply is NOT recommended though. Easier to simply purchase or make your own power supply for use with our current. There are ATX<>CD32 adapters if you happen to have a PeeCee power supply laying around and didn't care that you had a bastardised kind of set up too.

I know all about PAL booting and NTSC booting. :)
I live in the USA but every game I write is PAL.
The CD32 would be used on a good ol' 1084S.:knuddel:
I am only concerned about the electricity problem.
So if I get a Euro CD32 then I must also buy a US Power Supply for it then all will be fine and dandy?

Yup!

goto radioshack. you need a thing they call reverse voltage converter as for people in the US, it's reversing voltage stepping it DOWN not up, lets you plug stuff that runs on 220-240V into 110-220V outlets in the US. The real name for it is a step down converter I don't know why they call it "reverse voltage." They have the opposite too and it's way less expensive, the thing for plugging US stuff in in Europe. But what you need is: sku #273-1411 for $43.99 USD (29.99 GBP) (about 35 EUR). If you got the standard double round continental European plug that's all you need. If you got UK you just buy the UK plug converter, which is cheap and sold next to it in the store. Clear packages so you can match the stuff up before you buy it. Pretty much anything you can think of unless it's super high watt like a space heater will work just fine in that thing.
Yes plug something from the USA in in the UK for example with just an adapter to change the plug and not the volts, you get a blowup. Plug something European or British in in the USA, you get nothing. Maybe possible static electricity damage because you're not sending enough current through it, but more likely, nothing...

Just make your own adapter or have a friend make one for you. Costs about $2.00.

You can use a CD32 Power adapter:
