Is a stock Amiga 1200 capable of running WHDLoad with no problems? Would I experience severe slowdowns or low memory problems? Thanks.

It will work with some games. Most of the games need fastmem to work properly. You also have some slowdowns when loading the game.
If you can find a memory expansion of 4 MB Fastmem, you can load the games faster.

So I take it that the processor is fast enough, I just need more memory. I am thinking about buying 8mb of GVP ram. That should be more than enough, correct?

If you have a GVP accelerator to put it in....

Depends on what games you want to play. Most/all OCS/ECS games should work with the standard 2mb if you boot with no startup-sequence (which would be a pain in the ass come to think of it). Most AGA/CD32 games require more than the standard 2mb, 4mb available fast ram should be able to run just about anything.

You would also have to disable the preload tooltype and you will get choppy black screens during loading segments.

Which GVP card do you have?

best way is to put in a blizzard or apollo 1230...they are not that expensive

An extra 4-8MB Fast RAM would suffice, the 030 isn't required by any of the games.
