That's good stuff.
Not so sure I believe there is no fall off with distance, but good nonetheless.

He didn't say there was no attenuation with distance, just that it didn't follow the basic inverse square law.

The inverse square law is trivially easy to derive for a point source of energy radiating in all directions uniformly, even when in a perfectly conductive medium. Parallel sources behave rather differently in this regard. The sound will be attenuated, just with a different dependence on distance.

they were looking at installing those for the telephones/PC speakers at my work about 5 years ago. Guess it was too expensive. Neat device tho

I hadn't realised it had been around for that long.

I was pretty impressed with the inventor. Seems an imaginative and capable designer. Good stuff. I think it is pretty common for engineers, at least, to become quite institutionalised in our thinking. I love good inventions.

When you're in the "beam" of the audio, its really neat!  The guy standing next to you can hear nothing and you can hear music/telephone calls/etc.
