Title: Battery leak question.
Post by: x56h34 on October 27, 2003, 09:35:48 PM
I've recently received an A500+ which as you all probably know comes with a built in barrel type battery. As I've suspected beforehand, there was some leakage from the battery, but nothing major. The motherboard looks just fine, except there is a small stain left (about the size of a penny) where the battery originally leaked. Maybe I shouldn't even call it a stain, just a discoloration. I've cleaned it anyway with alcohol, and then the whole PCB with PCB cleaning spray compound, but the dark spot stain seems to be permanent. Am I safe to assume that it's of no concern anymore? Oh yes, the battery has been removed for good, and I've swapped the 2.04 rom for 1.3 and with the addition of the A501+ memory module I now own a very games friendly A500+ 2MB Chip Ram unit. :-)

Acid battery leaks can be cleaned with baking soda,
Alkaline battery leaks can be cleaned with vinegar,
What is a Ni-Cad? I'mnot sure.. :-?
I think you'll be OK,  :-)

-edit-  there are lots of battery threads here, do a search?
Also, substitute the words "cleaned" above to neutralized.

NiCd (nickel cadmium) isn't actually a battery, rather a rechargeable cell. They usually last a long time without leaking, I'm not sure how dangerous the electrolyte is though.
