Title: Is this Amiga special?
Post by: gdanko on June 18, 2009, 10:15:54 PM
I came across an A3000 with the serial number "00003252" which if read normally would indicate it's a very very early A3000. Is there anything special about this machine?

Not particularly, I don't believe.  It would be a production model and should have all the same specifics as any others of that motherboard revision.  You may need a slightly different set of kickstart ROMs for it (ROM Tower).  I forget exactly what the differences are, but I'm sure a bit of googling can still help out, if you're needing to upgrade it to 3.1 ROMs.

All Amigas are special, and all 3000s are especially so.  Grin.

Is that serial number on a silver sticker on the back of the unit or a yellow sticker on the motherboard?

I have a nonfunctioning A3000 with a case serial number of 0001177, made in Hong Kong. The numbers printed on the MB are, FAB 313312 rev 9/02, P/N 313313 rev 9/02. The MB has a sticker with S/N 10577.  Does not have the ROM tower. This unit had been through several hands in our amiga club way back before it ended up in my possession. It used to run years ago with a VideoToaster hacked into the case. Not sure what it's problem is...

As a Yahoo! employee I resent that verb. ;) I will check the board revs and see what they are. With Ethan running all over I havent had as much Amiga time. But I want to check this guy out and see if I can revive it no less.
