Hello all! I just got myself an A3000 from Amiga Lounge, and I am slowly setting the machine up. Since as my name suggests I am not too good with setting up the Amiga, I am curious which programs are a necessity from Aminet. I have a EGS Spectrum 28/24 card (I think those numbers are in the right order...) and I have installed Picasso 96 2.1 (I think) and have gotten class act and the new icons on disk and will be installing them tomorrow. So, what other programs should I be using? Please don't limit your suggestions to just freeware. I am truly curious about setting this puppy up to be a nice A3000 (as nice as I can for a computer that's almost 20 years old! :) ).

kickrom 3.1 (drop an email if interested).
Image FX - nova design sells it on ebay.
wb 3.1 / 3.9. :-D

Sorry I failed to mention, it does indeed have Kickstart 3.1 ROMS in it. It came with OS 3.9 installed, but doesn't have a CD ROM drive any more. It also has a wire attached to the back of the motherboard that I'm not certain what it does. But I am ordering another copy of OS3.1 when I have the time from Amigakit so that I have legitimate copies for each of my machines. I just have to wait until next monday when I get paid...

Do not install Classact if you're going to keep using OS 3.9. It has its own, newer, version of Classact called Reaction. OS 3.9 will break if you install the older Classact on top of it.

That's likely to be the /INT2 modification.

Hey mate . Congrats on your Amiga 3000 . I have always wanted one , so im jealous now .. hehehe
Did you check / remove the internal RTC battery ?
If it still has the original barrel type battery i would remove it quickly , even if it isn't leaking and replace it with the newer CR type battery/holder . You can buy these replacement kits from Amiga sites like redsretro , amigakit etc....
But do remove it . There is an extremely big risk of it damaging your motherboard . Believe me it is not a pretty site .
Anyways i wish you the best time with your new baby .

Another 'congrats' .... I'd like to get a 3000 myself.
Once you get her sorted out, and learn more, maybe you could post pics, and your config...
If I were you, I'd get a CD-ROM drive again... (or even better a CD-R, but yes, they can be expensive in SCSI)
Programs..hmmm.... Depends on what you want to do, and the specs of your machine...
IMHO, needed are:
Dopus4
Snoopdos
PriMan
MCP (can be a b***h to configure at first, but I now can't live without it :)
Nice to have:
ImageFX
Deluxe Paint (V. 4 or 5)
My .02 ....

Yup, the A3000 is my favorite of the bunch! Software wise, my selection would have to be:
DOpus
WHDLoad
Anticlick

Yep, He has the Battery hack from DJBASE installed. I made sure of that when I got it LOL. Basically, he has everything done to it that a stock A3000 could have done (Roms mem, ETC). I am glad you are enjoying it. I hated to see it go, but I just have WAYYY too much Amiga's for a one bedroom Apartment the size of a shoe box.

It does require a graphics card, but TVPaint is a great 24-bit paint program. And, now the Amiga version is free. Here's a link with the info... http://www.tvpaint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11

+1, I just can't live without those 3 programs:-)

I actually uninstalled 3.9 because I don't have a purchased copy of that OS. I have OS3.5. I installed my copy of 3.1, but I only have two copies of that, so I need to purchase another copy from Amigakit, so that I have a legitimate copy for each machine I have it on. Hi Quarkx! Yep, I've gotten her up and running and hooked up to a nice 21 inch CRT monitor. I put my spectrum card in it and it is looking awful nice! I saw that you have a CDTV as well on AmigaLounge. I am drooling again.....

Cool, glad to hear it. The CDTV needs the Power supply transplant, but it is a nice minty unit (probably the reason I have not got around to swapping Power supplies yet, is because it is so minty and I don't want to risk that). It came from RED here about 6 months back and has 2 controllers that have never been used (3 in total). Like I said, WAYYY tooo many Amiga projects on the go.

I would love to buy that CDTV as I have some old games for it just lying around, but my wife would have very good reason to kill me at that point. :P I will wait and see if I can convince her over time, that I just gotta have a CDTV. We'll see.
Back to the programs. There appears to be several versions of DOpus, which one should I use? If I order a license for WHDLoad, how long will it take to get a key for it? Also, what good is WHDLoad if I don't have any games to load with it? Is the anticlick program on aminet. I cannot check now as I'm in class, but I will check when I get home.
