Title: I want to connect 2 Amigas to my monitor
Post by: dougal on June 06, 2009, 08:30:59 PM
I have 2 Amigas on my desktop which i use , but i dont have space for 2 RGB monitors .

I was wondering if there is a way i can connect both of them (A1200 + A4000) to the same monitor and have like a switchbox or something to select which Amiga i wanna use .

It would save me having to unplug / plug etc...

I am using a Commodore 1084S D2 monitor .

If you can find, or build a switch box, yes it works fine. I use a box with 15 pin ports for my A1200/1942 and a windows machine on one desk. It may be a chore to find 23 pin port boxes though...

One through RGB, the other through composite... not ideal, but instant and it works (provided that model has the socket(s) on the monitor).

Ed: I've used A500+ through RGB with A1200 through composite on a 1084S, because that way they were both in colour, but usually I used (a few years ago) to have the A1200 on RGB and a VCR as a tuner feeding through the composite so I had RGB monitor with TV at the press of a switch.

Easy, get an old serial A-B switch and file down the 25 pin connector to 23. Make sure the box is a break-before-make one, though - much safer!

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, a serial switcher would be fine.
Be sure it´s a fully cables one though, sometimes not all pins are used.

A VGA switchbox would also work, you would just need to make some custom cables if you monitor does not have a VGA connector (A 1940/1942/1950/1960 or 1764 all have VGA plugs, this means you would only need 2 Amiga2VGA converters, still sold new on ebay)

Hi,
maybe it would be easier to use a péritel/scart 'RGB' switch box (16e in supermarker).
You'll have just to build a cable for your monitor.
